I did a search on this, and found just a few hints of what I would like to know. Just need an opinion on something...I made my own reflective badges a little while ago. They're ok, but I think I may want to remove all the badging. I have a red '99 GT, and it looks like the paint hasn't faded much if any. Do you guys think removing the badges would be smart considering there could be some paint fading? I really don't want to remove them, see that it looks bad, then have to get new badges...just need a few thoughts...

Well I don't know about you... but I have had my car for 1 year and 4 months, and it's ALWAYS out in the 2574585498752 degree wheather here in Charleston, and I had NO paint fade when I removed my badges... Just wax and buff really good, and I don't think you'll have a problem and if you do... I'll give you my badges for FREE!

but you also have to consider that the car is about 4 years old now. Hard to say....

Yeah, tell me about it. tough decision on my part...Well, I figure I could just remove one of the "GT's" on the side just to see what it looks like. If it's bad, I know I have some chewing gum around here somewhere to put it back on with... :)

Just be real careful taking the old ones off. If the paint is faded you can always put it back on. Usually the paint fades more on the direct sunlight area's of your car such as hood, roof, ect. Good example is my 93 GMC truck. The paint on the hood and roof is fade badly, but when I wax and buff out the sides they still look like new.

Well, here's the deal, guys. My dad won't let me remove my badges. We got into a huge argument over it. I pay for half of the car payment, the insurance, and all the maintainance/upgrading of my car. However, all the legal documents have his name on them. So, technically, it's HIS car...or so he says. In other words, I'm pretty much helpless. I have no idea why he wouldn't have said anything about clearing the tails, putting on gutter guard, painting the interior, etc...and then get all p*ssed off when I mentioned taking the badges off. He swears up and down that they are screwed on there and holes will show, and that I'll take the paint off. I even showed him a picture of a few of the guy's cars on here, and he still doesn't believe me. So what I'm gonna do is just wait a few weeks until I get back up to school to do it (get away from home). Chances are he'll never even notice the next time he sees the car. Gee, I wonder what he'll say whenever I have to cut a piece of metal off my car in a few days to put the Civic CAI on...GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Ian that sucks, my dad questioned me about the LEDs i was putting in but since I paid for all of it myself he only says "I dont see the point in it". He never asked me to take anything out though

Wow, we have extremely similar dads then. I love my dad and he works hard to provide for us, but sometimes he really just confuses me as to his reasoning behind things. I think once he realizes the badges are gone and it looks just fine with NO HOLES OR PAINT WEAR...he'll be ok with it. I just have to not be around for a while...amen for college :)

Also, have you tried putting some highlighter ink in some of those bottles of yours and then filling them with water? If you do that, then put them in blacklight, they glow like you wouldn't believe. I have a nice little collectiong ready for my room up at school this year.

I know the feeling. My dad wouldn't let me remove my badges on my 99 GT.. but I got lucky and my 03 doesn't have them except on the trunk!! :)

Just in case your dad lets you....I know someone with 99 that removed badges and he said no fade on his red car.

Thanks, AznGA. I severely doubt he'll actually ever "let" me, but I think once he realizes that it doesn't do any harm to the paint or the car, he'll be "ok" with it...you know how dads are...

I believe you can buy highlighter refills for those liquid highlighters that are out now. Or just buy a liquid highlighter and break it open.

I just relocated my badges this week. I have a 99 white gt. I used a little wax to remove the dirt on the clear you can't tell where they were. there was no paint faid. 9o% rubbing alchol works wonders on that left over glue, and I used 3m emblem tape located in the auto sec of wal mart. you only get one try with that stuff man it sticks good.

You can get highlighter refills from anywhere. I just went to my school bookstore and got some of the regular highlighter markers. The plastic end cap comes off. Just take the ink tube out of the marker. Get some rubber or plastic gloves...if you get the highlighter fluid on your skin, it stays on for up to a week (even with countless washings). Just put one end of the tube at the opening of the bottle... VERY carefully start at the top end and squeeze down the length of the tube using two fingers. You will see the liquid start dropping out of the end. Squeeze down the tube numerous times until you can't get any more liquid out of it. Then just fill the bottle to the top with water, cap it tightly, and give it a few shakes to mix. For larger bottles, use two. For smaller ones, one will do. The green and yellow highlighters by far glow the best. Red, blue, and orange are alright. A strong blacklight is necessary, also. Cheap and easy way to make any room look sweet@$$!!!
