Looking at changing exhaust system on GAGT and from reading various posts, obvious that most performance gained from a full catback exhaust. I am looking at Borla mainly because it seems to quieter than other systems. I have been quoted from about $900 to $1000 Cdn + installation for Borla which is not cheap.

My question is what performance could I expect from a muffler change only(Borla, Magnaflow etc) and what would happen to the lowend performance?

Thanks for the help

I believe you should only expect a few ponies from a muffler alone, if you were to get only a muffler, you would basically be looking for sound over performance.

Thanks Jagey.

That is what I expected. My GA is leased and I am not sure whether I am going to keep it, so I am trying to not spend a lot of money on mods that I might have to get rid of when lease is up.
Borla catback is very expensive.

I know what you're talking about, a guy I know got it for $1100 Canadian through partsource here in Winnipeg.

To get anything performance wise for our GA here in Canada is expensive. Even the few Canadian sites like FDP have U.S. and Canadian prices for products. That is why I mainly have only a K&N dropin and badge overlays so far. I can spend more but am being really careful with $ spent. Looked at your Nbody registry and noticed that you have black\red scheme. Looks good. I have black sedan and have done complete overlay with red on all badges and moulding. Looks good.

Do you have pics of your ride? I would love to see them.

If you're looking for quiet, Borla's the way to go. But it's the most pricey....so eh. I think you can get a custom flowmaster setup for fairly cheap, and get a muffler that isn't too loud.

Don't have a digital scanner or a digital camera. Want to get one soon.

If you're looking to get the most power for your buck, go with SLP. However, if you just want a little more sound and a little more power, a muffler and tips is the way to go. I would venture a guess at the Flowmaster 40 series as being the quietest of the Flowmaster line...don't quote me on that cuz I could be way off. Just do an exhaust search in this forum and be prepared to read a ton of stuff. As was posted on other threads, you can go to www.exhaustsoundclips.com and hear some systems on our cars.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Discussed things with my wife (she makes all the decisions in my house) and I have decided to go with a full Borla catback system.

Started pricing last night at local Performance Improvements outlet and got a price of $1089 + installation. (Wife does not know it is this expensive - yes I lied told her about $500). Have to get a couple of more prices but I don't expect much of a difference. I expect a couple of hundred for installation.

This leaves me about $500 from my $2000 budget for this round of mods. I am going to order CAI from FDP as well. I have decided to keep the GA after lease is up.
