Ok I just got my 180 degree t-stat in the mail and I was wondering what you think a shop would charge to put it in? I'd get a discount due to my dad's friend owning the radiator shop but I just need an guestimate on how much it would be. I'd do it myself but all the work I do on my car, I end up worse when I'm through, hehe.

I'd say $50-$75. About 1.0-1.5 hours.

Old threads woot! :)

what are the benefits of having a different thermostat than stock?

Runs cooler. Its not fun in the winter, im going through it right now. It never really gets "hot", but thats the point. I put mine in when we put in my headers, alot easier.

by running cooler, you reduce the chance of knock. when knock occurs, the pcm retards timing, which takes away power. so running a colder t-stat makes you not lose power due to this.

Its perfectly fine in the winter. The engine warms up just as fast as an engine with a stock t-stat except its stops 15 degrees cooler. If youwould go to a 160* t-stat, then you may run into problems with the warm air.

I dont know but it never really gets "hot". Before the t-stat it would get so hot i would have to find a setting that was comfrtable but now it just never gets hot enough to have to do that. It heats up just as fast.

i have a 160 in mine right now. it takes longer to warm up, but it isn't unbearable or anything.

It sounds like you may have a problem...(heater core) I had a thermometer in my vent and last time I remember, the temp was 140*.
