Did that geniune GM fuel filter come with a new gasket (O-Ring) for the connection that screws in? Thanks!

Comes with a white clip of some kind on the one side - that's it.

2001+ don't use them, so I chucked it.

And the GM filter is AC Delco.

Hmmm, ok, thanks for your help :)
My fram is leaking, and according to the GM service site there should be an o-ring sealing that connection.

It was a yr ago, so maybe I just don't remember...

No worried, I went to the hardware store and found an O-ring that fit perfectly :) No more leak. Thanks for your help!

How often do you need to change this?

General reccomendation is every 12,000 miles. I just changed mine after 8,000, and took a hacksaw to it. Filter media was fairly dirty... I don't know if I'd want to go a full 12,000.
I always change mine every 8-9 :)
It's pretty easy, cheap, and will definately extend the life of your fuel pump (which is a major bitch to replace).

this might be a dumb question but how do ya go about changing the filter.....I know where it is and actually I have a brand new one right here. So I guess my question is.....is there anyway to do it with out spilling gas all over the place?

So is the o-ring required for the 2000 models? I have the filter, but it doesn't come with the o-ring.

I was told 30K for the fuel filter by the dealer, but I did it at 22K.

Keep in mind that pre-2001 cars have a harder way to change.

Gas will spill out, just have a bucket ready to catch it. If you de-pressurize the fule line before you start, it isn't too bad. A cup or two at the most.

i just changed my filter today on my 2000 se, and it was easy as hell, took me 10 min, some gas did spill, but it was all soaked up into some towels. It was easy, and that green clip everyone says is hard as hell to take off was so easy, a kid could do it.
Is it me or have I done 2 jobs that ppl say are hard (fuel filter and spark plugs) in like record times, and I am 19 with only hand on experience (first time fuel filter and first time plugs :D)

the green clips are the easy ones....the black clips used on some 99's are pure torture (like the one on my early 99). I was a mechanic for 5 years and I don't think I've ever been so stumped (and ****ed) by such a stupid little clip....
