My wife pulled the key out of the ignition when it was in reverse. I didn't know this so when i got in i put it in park. now the ignition is stuck.. will not turn one bit. I've rock the car front to back, tried putting in neutral, shifter will not move, unhooked the battery. nothing working. the worse thing is the car is at her work and not in my front yard. So any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advance.

try turning the steering wheel a bit. That did the trick on my dad's old Maxima

You have to try to get it in park to lock the transaxle.

There is also TSB that your dealer should have. It is a known issue and safety problem. A warranty repair is available and in most cases towing to your dealer is covered

I just had the same thing happen, and I found the TSB mentioning the ignition module. I'm having the car towed tomorrow. It's actually happened before but no amount of turning the wheel has helped this time. My question is that I have 75,000 miles on this car and am out of warranty. Do I have any leverage in getting at least part of this repair covered since there is a TSB about it?

most likely not... i had the extended warranty and it still costed me 100 buck. the ignition itself was 159 plus 150 in labor. i had a tumbler drop out.

Unfortunately, I've been having to use this forum a lot lately because of issues with our Grand Am. But I am thankful for all the good info. This just happened to me today. I'm also out of warranty.

Does anyone have a link to this TSB?

Thanks.

Well, I found another fix for this although it may be temporary. Take a hammer or other heavy object and bang on the end of the key while it's in the ignition. So you're hitting the end of the key like the head of a nail.

If the ignition switch lock cylinder does need to be replaced, it's GM Part # 22670487. GM list - $133, GMPartsdirect.com - ~$65.
