Now that college football is officially underway, who is everyone team, and realistically how do you think they will do?

My team is the Michigan Wolverines, and I realistically think they will be the National Champs. This is not a bias pick for me, as I think the next 2 years we will not be competing for the NC, and be lucky to be Big 10 Champs.

Go Blue!!!

My fav team is Notre Dame. I don't think they have a chance because of their offense. Their defense should be tough though. I really think that Ohio St has a good chance of a repeat. They actually play Michigan at Michigan, so that should be a great game.

How about a whole conference? Big 12 Baby!!! 3 teams in the top 5. The survivor will be the national champion.

Go Hurricanes!!!!!Only hope the unproven QB will not hurt us even though he is being touted as going to be a great QB.And didn't they really win the national championship last season without the erronious ref call of interference!!!!!The real national champs are the Canes!!

Well there were TWO National Championship trophies handed out last year, but the BCS messed that up again and gave the Buckeye's YOUR National Title. The other National Title is that yellow flag from the ref in the corner of the endzone, and that one belongs to Ohio State.

Bama is headed in the right direction with Shula, but the talent level is not very good right now which will show up next week against a powerhouse like Oklahoma.
The score in my Canes game was lopsided but misleading really.Their offense stunk!!It looks to me that my boys will lose a few games this year for the first time in quite a while.

the lions actually went out and spent money this year. if harrington could ever learn to move out of the pocket they might have a chance.

as far as the tigers go, they're a bunch of rookies, give it some time. (i hope)

pistons. firing carlisle was a bad bad mistake, he took the team from 32-50 to 50-32, nuff said.

red wings, have been my team my whole life and it's all because of their talent scouts.

it's tough being a diehard fan in detroit, up until 2 years ago we only had 1 winning team, hopefully before i die the lions and tigers will win something important.

I'm a UGA fan, but realisticly I think their best chance to win it all will be next year....that is if all the talent doesn't skip out on their senior year again. My prediction for Sugar Bowl winner right now is USC. That was an impressive dismantling of Auburn Saturday. I mean holding that quartet of backs to 43 yards on 36 carries, D@MN!

I'd be satisfied with another SEC title and a BCS Bowl win this year. Anyway....GO DAWGS! SIC 'EM!

BLACK99GT/ROB
08-31-2003, 06:05 PM
USC is real good but was Auburn overrated? They were touted as a national champion contender and did not even put up a fight against USC. If they were that good they should have at least scored 3 pts.

Jason22
08-31-2003, 07:40 PM
I think that Auburn is/was overrated. Their QB is a joke, they do have some of the best backs in football, excellent linebackers, but that is it. USC dominated them defensively, that was very impressive. The Trojan offense was nothing special, 17 of their points came off of turnovers, so 6 points were actual drives.

Ohio State's defense was phenomenal also, but coming into the Horseshoe at nighttime is a death wish. OSU is in trouble in a couple of weeks when NC State comes visiting, without Clarett the Buckeye's have no rushing threat, 3.3 Yards Per Carry, very unimpressive. Gamble = overrated

Oklahoma needs to find a replacement for Quentin Griffin, North Texas shut down their running game.

Georgia played an awesome game, must say I am surprised they came out with a shutout after losing a lot of talent to the draft.

My Wolverines offensively looked great, defensively Central was able to run the ball. We did very little line stunts, minimal blitzing, it appreared as the gameplan was to show Notre Dame nothing and just play straight up, but that appears to be a weakness for now.

Great first week, teams knocking off the rust and getting things going, cant wait for week #2!!

However, the guy who will likley have a better season because of all the double coverage on Roy is BJ Johnson. BJ is just as good, just not as big and physical. He too will be a high draft selection. They have both had very successful careers so far at Texas.

Sorry Peeps.

I just cannot see Texas winning with bringing in a brand new QB, even though you guys have two great ones, in college football it is mainly about experience there. That is why I see Miami losing a few this year also. No doubt you guys have the talent there, because Mack is a great recruiter, but I think he chokes come big game time, i.e. Red River Shootout. Maybe this year he proves me wrong, and I'll get to see your Horns vs my Wolverines... that would be a very interesting matchup!

Go Blue! I'll agree to a point. There have been many great quaterbacks that have come in with no experience and led their teams to great things. There are others that have lead their teams to terrible things. It all comes down to field presence, which is somewhat related to experience, but not always. By the time the big games come around, Chance Mock will have had 4 games under his belt in addition to the spring and summer drills to get his team believing in him and gaining the field presence needed to do great things.

I know the gripes everyone has with Mack Brown and I agree. It is very rare that I don't question SEVERAL things that happen in each game.

As for the Red River Shootout, we'll just have to see what happens on Oct. 11th. Besides, living in football past is no fun (especially the past 3 years).

With Mack, what is your biggest beef about his game plans? I only see a game or two a year of Texas, so I personally am not familiar with the teams schemes and weaknesses. I did watch the No. Texas game though. Are you at all concerned about the running game? I know Benson didn't have a good game, just kinda curious to hear your analysis on the run offense.

Michigan State will be lucky to win 3 big ten games this year. Sure they've won their first two games but against Western and Rutgers and they couldn't even cover the spread against either. Western should've won the game and Rutgers was up 21-20 I believe early in the 2nd or 3rd quarter. MSU is horrible, at least they still have a powerhouse b-ball team as for my Wolverines... well we all know :rage: they are still on probation.

both teams played a hell of a game and the only thing that killed us was that Stoops was a better coach, but our rookie coach (2nd game ever as head coach) kept up w/ one of the best possibly even THE best college football coach. so all i have to say is HAHAHA anyone see that Georgia Tech-Auburn game? I'm scared of Alabama, when they get off of probation they are gonna be back to being a top 10 team... Shula's got his dad, one of the best coaches ever in any sport in his corner to help him out. The Tide looked really good last night, I thought they were gonna come back but that fake punt, then the deep touchdown pass took the wind out of them just enough. Alabama should be a top 10 team every year, it just seems weird not seeing them compete and in the SEC championship game every year. I never bought into all the preseason Auburn hype, they were a decent team last year so why did everyone think they were gonna be GREAT this year.

yeah the fake field goal really killed us...but coach stoops saw that we werent guarding their wings so he used it against us but as ESPN said...if his job wasnt covered until 2010..he wouldn't have gone for that lol

and if Auburn keeps going downhill the way they are, coach Tuperville (sp.?) will be fired lol

UCLA football! woot woot! We won an astounding 6-3 nail biter against illinois...

I'm a bruin and all...but was it great defense...or extremely poor offense! Yikes...I sure hope our offense gets better..or it'll be a loooong season.

I know you ment this topic to be division 1-A football. But I just wanted to take this time to brag about my home team. Valdosta is just 10 minutes from my house, my wife is a senior at Valdosta State University. VSU lost the division 2 title game last year to Grand Valley State, but their coming back hard.

The division 2 poll has them ranked #1 in the nation.

Hey KCitsGT, Division 2 football is cool too... your Valdosta team is quite good... I remember watching them play GVSU last year, and being from Michigan I of course was rooting for them. What did you think of Kircus in that game?

Well if GVSU cannot win it this year, I will pull for Valdosta, best of luck this year!

Kircus was awesome, heard he went in the draft. That's pretty rare for a D2 player.
