I just bought a 1998 Grand Am GT. The check engine light was on, but I know that it could be that it just needed cleared, becuase the owner, who I know, had just had a tuneup down to it.
It had a clunk in the right front when braking and going down bumpy roads.
I discovered that it was the Right lower control arm bushing. It was worn out all together. I replaced that and the clunk was gone and everything was running fine. After leaving it set for about an hour I got in and was drving along when the check engine light began to blink.
At the stop light I noticed that the car seemed to "pulse" not the brakes, just the whole car. I drove it back to my house and popped the hood. When it is in park you can see the engine moving alot in the mount and it whines.
It sounds like some type of vacuum isnt being pulled, possibly from the power steering. I checked the fluid level and it was fine.
Any ideas?
