I'm about to remove my side mirrors to do the swap to the dual-post ones and I'm just wondering if you really have to remove the door panel ? I don't want to. The little plastic crap in GA's never seems to go back together like it was.....any help or tips?? I'll post what I found searching for futore focktards like me!

Mirror Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the front door trim panel Insert. Refer to Trim Panel Insert Replacement - Front Door .

2. Remove the remote control from the outside rearview mirror remote control bezel (manual only). Refer to Mirror Replacement - Remote .

3. Remove the front door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door .

4. Disconnect the electrical connector, if power.

5. Remove the front door inner panel mirror insulator (3).

6. Remove the outside rearview mirror nuts (2).

7. Remove the outside rearview mirror (1).

Installation Procedure

1. Position the outside rearview mirror to the front door.

2. Install the nuts to the outside rearview mirror (2).

Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Tighten the outside rearview mirror nuts in the following order:
A. Top
B. Forward
C. Rear Tighten

4. Tighten the outside rearview mirror nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

5. Install the front door inner panel mirror insulator (3).

6. Connect the electrical connector, if power.

7. Install the front door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel

8. Replacement - Side Front Door .

9. Install the remote control to the outside rearview mirror remote control bezel (manual only). Refer to Mirror Replacement - Remote .

10. Install the front door trim panel insert. Refer to Trim Panel Insert Replacement - Front Door .

I'd rather lose power mirrors than take the door panel off! But I'll still try to reach it and see how it goes.

I just went out and looked at the wireing.....That clip is SUNK deep into the door panel....No way I can reach it!! :rage:

What if I just cut and splice the wires? Are the wires the same colors as the ones on the dual post mirrors?

couldnt tell yea. id have dual pot mirrors if i knew :D
taking the door off isnt really that big of a deal. both of mine have come off 3 or 4 times now, still work like new. besides being black.

OK. I went and looked at the wiring....

dual post mirrors have:
purple wire
yellow wire
blue wire

mouse ears have
purple
brown
blue

So I'm just gonna cut 'em and match 'em up.

When my mirror got knocked off the car, the plug was right there and easy to undo... Maybe they just messed up on my car or the force of the focktard clippin it yanked it up high enough

when i was fiddling with one of my mirrors, i took the cover over the screws off and the wires went directly down under the door panel. then i took the mirror off hoping the clip was somewhere in there. no luck, hehe

I wonder if they changed it for 03? alot of electrical stuff seems to be different on mine than older models.
