I'm about to remove my side mirrors to do the swap to the dual-post ones and I'm just wondering if you really have to remove the door panel ? I don't want to. The little plastic crap in GA's never seems to go back together like it was.....any help or tips?? I'll post what I found searching for futore focktards like me!
Mirror Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the front door trim panel Insert. Refer to Trim Panel Insert Replacement - Front Door .
2. Remove the remote control from the outside rearview mirror remote control bezel (manual only). Refer to Mirror Replacement - Remote .
3. Remove the front door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door .
4. Disconnect the electrical connector, if power.
5. Remove the front door inner panel mirror insulator (3).
6. Remove the outside rearview mirror nuts (2).
7. Remove the outside rearview mirror (1).
Installation Procedure
1. Position the outside rearview mirror to the front door.
2. Install the nuts to the outside rearview mirror (2).
Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
3. Tighten the outside rearview mirror nuts in the following order:
A. Top
B. Forward
C. Rear Tighten
4. Tighten the outside rearview mirror nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
5. Install the front door inner panel mirror insulator (3).
6. Connect the electrical connector, if power.
7. Install the front door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel
8. Replacement - Side Front Door .
9. Install the remote control to the outside rearview mirror remote control bezel (manual only). Refer to Mirror Replacement - Remote .
10. Install the front door trim panel insert. Refer to Trim Panel Insert Replacement - Front Door .
