Man, so many surprises keep coming my way. Unpleasent ones.
I finally got around to getting my hids installed today after months of gathering dust. The hids are from misterjung. Stuck the passenger's side in first. I hooked everything up and turned on the lights. It fired right up. I still had the driver's side halogen in, so I wanted to see if I would get an svs light if I pulled the drl relay and whether or not the drls would be disabled. Struggled for a bit to figure out how to remove the relay. I Finally figured it out and discovered I got more than a svs light. The high beam indicator came on and my driver's side halogen would not light at all. Only the passenger side which had the hid in it. I was not happy. :rage:
Next came the driver's side hid. I poped that in and hooked everything up and what did I see??? Nothing. It would not light. The passenger side hid would light, but not the drivers. So I took out the hid bulb and plugged it into the passenger side ballast. It lit up. So I have a bad ballast. Here we go again. I now must contact misterjung in order to get this replaced. At least now, I have 2 options of contacting misterjung unlike before. A toll free number has been added to the site.
So on with the pics. Like the title reads, "Half HID, Half Halogen." Unfortunately due to the dead ballast, I had to stick the halogen back into the driver's headlamp. At least this gives me and you a look at how different and better hid is to halogen. After using the hid, I must say that no halogen can compare to an hid. None. This thing is bright. I got the 7000k version so it has a blue/violet look. It looks cool. The hid almost drowns the halogen out. It's radius is wide. I think I may purchase the 6000k hid bulbs though. I kinda want the blue/white look.

Some pics are a bit fussy and out of focus. Other pics that were aimed directly at the lights were hard to capture and became somewhat washed out. You can make it out though.
Oh, 1 good thing about misterjung, they still sell hid lights. :)
Question, is it possible for a dealership to disable the drls electronically? Like with a scan tool or something?

They won't do it for you... The process for getting DRL's disabled by a dealer is a PITA, and you have to have a letter from a law enforcement agency on law enforcement letterhead... then they tell the dealer how to kill them.
It is a simple fix to kill them electronically, requires sending some information to the BCM... however you just have to find someone that would do it for you :)
Your headlights look like mine when the dealer broke one of my capsules. You really need to not run on one headlight tho - they do burn in and change color with time, you're going to have lamps that don't match if you run around with just one.

Yeah, i'm going to save myself the embarrasment and remove the hid. :( Back to halogen. Just wanted to see what it looked like.
I was trying to avoid stripping wires from the BCM to install the drl kit but that seems to be my only option now. :(
I wonder if I can get that ODB tool from ebay. Hmmm. Doubt it.

I paid $379 for mine. The site is www.misterjung.com. He has a promotion right now that is going to end Sept. 9. $389 + $20 mail in rebate. $369. The prices have increase since I bought mine. It used to be $369 for the 5200k, 6000k, and 7500k. 7000k was $379. But now, all of them cost $389.

You werent in gear when it wouldnt light were you? If you were, thats the problem. When in gear, youll have to flip the high beam switch to get both of em to turn on. Also, did you have "grounding" problems with the ballasts? I had problems very similar to yours , untill i wrapped my ballasts in electrical tape. Sounds ghetto, but it gets the job done and looks fine. Worth a try.

Well, I unmounted the driver's side ballast and put it on top of some plastic wrap but it still wouldn't light.
I'll check about the gear thing.

Both of mine (with DRL kit though) dont ligt unless the key is in the on posistion, and its in park. Otherwise, i need to flip the high beams quick.,

Maybe I should do 1 more test. I didn't test the ballast that I claim is bad on the passenger that works. So that's what i'm gonna do. Now if it lights, then I will be completely lost. If it doesn't, then I know what to do.

Yah the way the DRL works farts with the DRL kit, if you are in gear just flick the high beams and release, should turn on the drivers side headlight.

Good luck getting HID's anywhere in the US. The DOT has made some crazy rule that aftermarket HID's can not be sold legally anymore in the US. Their reasoning was that "a car with balasts, igniters, and HID capsules must stay that way, a car with halogen must stay halogen- halogen headlamp housings are not designed for proper reflection of the HID beam." There was a place in Madison Wisconsin that was selling them afterwards, and from what I read in the newspaper, they got in quite a bit of trouble for doing so.
Anyways, I have the CATZ HID system and am very happy with it- I got the Aqua White which I think is 5200K. I have to aim them a bit- the low beam is OK, but the high beam is way out of alignment.
Is the reason that you are getting only the passenger HID capsule to work is because you pulled the DRL relay? I vaugley remember reading on this site earlier that with cars pre 2003, if you pulled the DRL fuse out, you would get a dim drivers side headlamp. Could that be the problem- the igniter isnt getting enough power to send to the ballast and fire the bulb? That would be my best guess. Hope this helps.

I put back the drl relay once I found out the driver's side lamp (which had the halogen in it still) would not light. I then put in the hid for the drivers side and got nothing. :(
I know about misterjung and it's customer support. I had to deal with it before. I exchanged 9006 bulbs for 9007 and that was hell. I had to send a message that I would get the BBB involved. Once jung saw that, I got a notification that my exchange bulbs have shipped.

Yeah, I know about that . But misterjung has no mention of that on the site and you are still able to "check-out" the conversion kits.

So I took the "bad" ballast and hooked it up to the passenger side hid bulb that was lighting with the good ballast. It did not light. So just as I thought, the ballast is dead. BAD.
I completely removed the hid and reinstalled the halogen. :( So i'm back to the old halogen look. I am using silverstars and the color is no longer there. I bought them in may and almost 4 months later, the light blue color has disappeared. It looks like any ordinary halogen bulb.

After I get this all done (hopefully soon), my next mod will probably be blue neons. It would complement the hids well. Not too many people have neons in Maryland so my car would stand out. I'll have some heads turning for sure. :D

BTW - I'll be in Baltimore Tuesday & Wednesday - if u wanna meet up and try my ballasts or anything, let me know.
