I just got a OE replacement bumper for a GT Coupe. It will come sanded and primed, I wanted to know what you guys think it will cost to get painted. Also, if anyone is from Southeast PA or DE or even close in MD and have anyone in mind to do this painting for me, let me know. I'll take any suggestions. Thanks.

120 primed and painted is cheap.

I would say about $200. More or less depending on where you go.

$287 from the dealer. It was already painted, but I needed it painted a different color. It's another $50 for them to install it, but I wouldn't bother.

It's not even so much the labor costs, but a lot is also the cost of the paint itself. The metal flake that's in our paint isn't cheap. n yeah, what Crazy said. My 2 main reasons for going to my dealer was #1 duh, Pontiac. They make our cars, they can do the best job IMO paint matching to the code, n #2 if there was/is a problem in the future, not as much of a PITA to go back there.

Just my .02.

1. you could always call the dealer, get the paint code and PPG can custom mix paint to match (just found out my cousin can repaint cars so i'm the process of saving some $$ to do something similar)

2. that's of course assuming that you get a warranty on your paint job, which most places wont do.

True, but the dealership by me has a fantastic body shop, n I'm not worried about any sort of warranty from them. In my case, we've been dealing with them for 10+ years...

It's also different if ur repainting ur whole car Kyle, sure any place can do that. It's when ur painting to match n don't wanna worry about blending that u have to be more careful.

Most paint manufacturers will warranty thier paint should anything fail over time/ a reasonable amount of time that is. I've billed PPG & Dupont both for adhesian failure & both sent a rep to check out the situation & have never had a problem w/ them backing up thier product. As for painting it yourself, if you have little or no experience you're better off taking it to someone who knows what thier doing - trust me. Especially, as stated, w/ metalics you'll be in WAY over your head. & Yes, the paint is expensive, I mix my own for free of course but I checked to see what a quart of galaxy silver (My car's color) in PPG DBC basecoat would run & it came out to $99. That's just the base. The clear, depending on the quality of clear used can be rather costly also.
Also, just because a bodyshop would happen to be a GM bodyshop don't make it great. You'll find your best quality paint jobs at an independant, especially ones that specialize in custom work. I painted customs' & race team cars & transports at my prior shop that would put a GM dealer paint shop to shame, most of those guys are solid color, base clear shooters w/ little or no hard or exciteing challenges. You'd have to drag me kicking & screaming to get me painting in a dealership again/ I'd probably fall asleep w/ my gun in my hand:D As for matching paint, anyone that has the experience & knows what thier doing can do it. Once you've been in the biz 4 a while it's a breeze. ~ Just my opinion since it's what I do.:)
