if you want something REALLY bright for under dash get some cold cathodes from www.oznium.com. Ive never seen anything brighter than those yet. Only bad thing is there is limited colors. And stay away from red cathodes they look pink :)

u wont find anything brighter than an led, sorry to say, no cold cathode bs , the varad led bar is 3x as bright as ANY neon made.. end of story, i work with led's almost everyday, and there isnt a single neon that you cant stare at, with my led's, you cant stare at them cause they hurt your eyes!!!!

alright you know everything, but i think not. First of all have you even seen a cold cathode? Secondly, a cold cathode ISNT a neon. If you think a little led strip is brighter (much less 3x brighter) than a cold cathode you obviously dont know what im talking about, and we've already established the fact that you have no clue what your talking about. The reason you cant stare at LED's is because they project out and neons glow, that doesnt make LED's necessarily brighter. Varads Led's suck anyways if you want LED's you should have gone plasmaglow.

just be warned they have a pinkish tint to them. :) www.oznium.com has them and any red cathode will be like that not just ozniums its the gas inside.

I am going to buy the 2 12 inch blue neon tubes, but my question is, if I buy those, do I also have to buy the transformer separate or does the set come with one?

Red does turn out pink and blue turns out tealish kinda, as you see in my pic. But the tubes are EXTREMELY FLIMSY!!!!! meaning if anything taps them, the tube is popped, and the transformer comes with all of them

damn, rip a guy apart, those cathodes are bright, but i doubt that it isnt a pair of those cathodes in that car to make it that bright, has to be more... if its just a pair of them, then im impressed, if not, then im not... i have a cold cathode in my computer, looks nice but dosent knock my socks off... im just saying led's are hella small, i have them (not in a varad bar) but wired individualy through out my car and they are so easy to hide cause they are only 5mm wide!!!! and with led's, you get the color you want.. and its a true and bright color that will never fade, and they use jack for amperage....
id agree with cold cathodes for interior lights if you want to light up a hudge area, but definetly leds for the smaller ones.
and i like how the cold cathodes are 100% clear and thin, might have to get a pair for dome lights....
as for a pict, i dont know how to load it on hear cause i already used in in another post, but its in my car domain if ya want to see my side mirror's!
anyway, u changed my opinion on those, but i still like the blinding stare of a 5000mcd led !!!1

Sorry I was a little hard on you, my bad- it wasnt a good night. But I agree with you 100%. I love LED's I just didnt agree on brighter than cathodes. LED's are definately 10x cooler for smaller places and more of an accent lighting. Plus i think LED's are a little more classy i guess you can say. No hard feelings :)

I tried to tell some schmuck on gaownersclub.com that they are flimsy but he flamed me and put 4 of those cathodes under his car trying to be cool. I guess he hasnt broke them yet so i dont know. Oh well hes ghetto fabolous so more power to him.
Ive heard they have redone them a little recently, the oznium.com ones anyways. Im not sure how recent that is? how old are yours? your always up to date with all your stuff so i doubt very old. BTW your new underbodies kickass i envy you. :D

And Mcgyver. Those looks like only a pair of cathodes.
I had 1 green on on each side of my dash, and it was hella bright. I had to keep them off while driving. They lit my whole car like a homer simpson nuclear reaction.

Based on the reviews I have read, they are pink. I ordered blue because of this reason.

i need red, preferably bright red
you guys that have the 'thodes, how are they wired? i know the neons have that cheesy ass cigarrete lighter plug, so some people hardwire them. what did you guys do in order to keep wires and stuff hidden with these cathodes? (wiring is something I need to learn ALOT more about...)

i dont understand what your asking? how to hide the wires? Its pretty self explanatory once you get to where you mounted the tubes and how to hide wires. Theres kind of an art to it.
All depends on where you mounted the tubes on how you hide the wires. But route your wires behind things so where they are hidden and if it is not completely possible to hide them then cover them in black wire loom so they look factory and wire tie them up somewhere. But make sure you do all that BEFORE you hook them up, much easier that way :)
thanks bud, but my question was HOW did people wire them...i.e. did you wire them into the fuse box, or the battery, etc.
thanks for any input everyone :)

I went to autozone and they had a little box thing with DC hookups that plugged into the cigarrette lighter I cut the end off and hardwired it to the back and then I wired a switch in and put all my neons on the box
