How bad does your car have to shudder before you need to worry about it?
Over the past couple of weeks, I've noticed a bit of a shudder off the line. I always thought it was because of the slickness of the stop bar at the intersection, but today I think I had a bigger problem.
I was getting on the highway on went to accelerate in front of a semi and the car shuddered pretty bad. Only lasted a second or so, but it was very noticable. Right now I'm sitting at 52K and I am pretty sure that I will not be able to duplicate this for the dealer.
With the extended warranty I'm thinking they will be a bit more picky on work done. Is there any particular angle I can go in with when talking to the dealer? I only have 8K left on my warranty and I don't want to drop my transmission anytime soon either.
Any suggestions on what to do, or how to approach the dealer?
Anyone else have these shuddering problems?

Had some shudering like that on my Trans am once!
I think that had too do with the torque converter lock up.
They might try to give you some B.S. about flushing the trans with the evo or B.g. machine. BUT if your as much of a **** as i am i would fry the trans and make them put a new one in. oh be sure thats it though first:D

The other thing I was thinking it might be is bad fuel or something along those lines. I know my wife's truck would shudder bad until we ran high test through it for a couple tanks and it seemed to clean things up.
Then again, this really felt like the car wanted to go, but wouldn't engage. I'm just a bit weary because I'm hitting the end of the extended warrenty and I don't want to get stuck with a big repair in a couple months.

My Grand AM is in the shop today being looked at. It has a shudder between 1st and 2nd gear under half throttle or a little more. I hope they replace the trans but I doubt it. Do you think it is a valve body issue, or the clutches for 1st to 2nd?

Before anyone jumps to conclusions about the trans dying, check your misfire history - this needs to be done with a scan tool. Misfires can feel just like a slipping tranny, and can be caused by something as simple as a bad plug or plug wire....just an idea.

Something to look into but I know this one is trans related. It is only the 1-2 shift, and doesn't feel like a misfire at all.

My car is having a very similar problem. I posted about it before the forums were lost... Very slow shift from 1-2 under 50% or more throttle. Let me know what they find with yours, I'm very interested to find out.

Alright well I got the car back. My 1-2 shift shudder turned out to be the transmission pressure solonoid. I hope that my 1-2 clutches didn't take a beating and that the trans lasts awhile. Oh well, I have the extended warranty to fall back on.

Do you have any idea how much the part and or labour would be?

I am not sure, you would have to check with your local GM dealer. Mine was under warranty and didn't state the price. Sorry

No prob. :) I'll check it out. I had a hunch that was probably the problem. I just don't have much $$ left for repairs.

Thanks, and glad yours is working good now!

It was wierd because there weren't any codes coming up and you think there would be since the transmission pressure was not right.

According to GM, it will only set codes under certain conditions. I can't remember what thos conditions are, but basically there has to be a certain amount of slip a specific number of times in a given time frame. It may not have been bad enough to set a code.
