Ever since I installed the SLP and CAI, my engine runs hotter than hell, especially since the area I live in has normal daily temps of 110-115. Is this killing the lifespan of my engine, and are there any methods of cooling down my engine? Is the Casper's Hi Speed Fan Switch a good buy? Thanks

What temps are you running at? A 180 T-Stat would be much cheaper than the fan switch. Only downside is a slightly annoying install.

Its usually between the 3rd and 4th dash to the right of the 200 mark...

you can also drain a small amount of coolant and add some watter wetter from redline. it reduced my engine temp about 5-10 degrees, and its only 8 dollars.

I have the same prob! I also have the good doctors CAI and SLP and ever since install i have probs with my engine getting hot. Same exact thing your talkin. I do have *** ram air hood but i havent cut the opening yet, i think this might help me abit. I am getting headers and when those are getting installed im putting in the 180* t-stat. I hope this may help me also. I dont know what else to do.

Get a 180 degree t-stat, and wire up some switches to your fan relays and you will be good.

Here is a net little trick I found to cool the engine down to 200. If you turn on your A/C it overrides the engine fans tempture switch and turns both fans on.
Now I know most people on the board will probably say that turning on the A/C adds extra stress and heat to the engine and I would normally agree, but with todays cars and the many sensors this seems to work. My car consistantly runs at 200 with the A/C on in NY LIE Bumper to Bumper traffic.
You can alos turn it on for a minute and then shut it off and the engine fans stay on until the temp drops to 195

Yeah I sometimes run hot usualy when i'm in traffic, I just turn my AC on for a fue seconds untill the high speed fan comes on and then shut the ac off

See the thing with A/C is gas, and gas prices suck my nut. SO I just turn the heat on. And if you know anything about chicago traffic it sux. We have 2 seasons, winter and construction! So my car heats up fast! Why is it going up to 225! Thats way more than what you guys listed..... Would my LIM gasket have anything to do with this?

LOL Man We have the SAME **** up hear!. But.... they way i discribed dosent waste any gas you though the AC on for a fue seconds then turn it off. This Turns on the high speed fans and keeps them going untill I turn my car off. The A/C is running for maby 10 seconds.

Yeah.....I've got the same problem as you Kpazz....car gets up to 230 degrees regularly with the 180 t-stat. Hopefull the Cooling Fan Harness will get here soon and save me.....I hate it when it sits at 230 and I've got my heater all the way up.

I know, and you know 355? It was backed up all the way to lake cook road, which is where it starts for me. God! I was going an average speed of 35, with the MOTHER FCKUING heater on! On a hot day!And I was going to Carol Stream which means I was on that damn expressway for more than an hour!!!!!! So just turn the a/c on for 10 sec full blast, and then turn it off? SHould I still leave the knob on cool? What about those lightwieght fans you can get? That are larger and all that crap? Anyone try that?

Just stick with the Caspers Cooling Fan Harness. It makes the fans spin at like twice the speed as stock setting, leave it on and the temps will drop dramatically.
I don't think I've used my A/C since I bought the car.

you dont even need it on full blast when the AC Compresser is turned on after a fue seconds you will hear the High speed fans go once they are on just turn the AC off. It works great

You know what I do when im stuck in traffic. BLast real annoying music, or inappropriate music to **** everyone off. And I may dance like an idiot. Good times. OR just stare at people. THeir reactions are hilarious! Start honking and screaming FcuK repeatidly. o man fun times........
Most of our cars that have a 180 t-stat, cai, and all these other mods normally run hot. It is not unusual to run at 215 to 230.

The tempeture sensor in the thermostat housing that singles the fan to go on is set to trip on around 220-230 and shut off when the temp is at 195. From what I read this was purposely done by GM for emissions purposes.
I know that for the f-body cars (camaro, trans am, etc) JET sells a either a new temp sensor or some sort of modulator. I saw it in Summit but can't find it write know.
I also posted something about this JET product about a month ago.

DHP reprograms the sensor to turn the fans on at 186 degrees I believe, at least somewhere around there. I'm sure if you want, when getting their chip you can ask them to change that temp to something else....but for the 180 thermostat guys it's a good thing I guess.

I don't have any engine mods on my car and it was running a little hot, i took it to my mechanic and he flushed the coolant system and got rid of the dex-cool, has been running better since then.
