View Full Version : Does GM "Get it"?
YOUR BRAKES ARE THE WORST IN THE INDUSTRY!
So why brag about it?
On the concept / show car section of their news they have a Sunfire listed. In the description, it has...
link is here..
http://www.pontiac.com/concept/index.jsp?brand=grandam&pagename=models_prices
"Suspension-SPO road racing/rally kit (Grand Am disc brakes and independent rear suspension)"
Using that as a selling point?
It seems they might be marketing this as addons you can do to your sunfire, but who in their right mind would put GrandAm brakes on their Sunfire? The same brakes with the yearly TSBs.
What will it take for GM to finally realize that there isn't a person alive who wouldn't pay a couple hundred more for their car if they were getting a reliable brake solution. ...contract it out to Baer or something and then brag about that.

our brakes suck but however the sunfire is a much smaller lighter car so I am sure they are much better than the factory sunfire parts.

Yup, also bear in mind that the Sunfire comes with rear drum brakes and a beam rear axle, the GA rear discs and IRS are definitely a step up.

My mom has a 00 Sunfire Se Coupe and the brakes are terrible on that thing it takes forever to stop compared to my brakes on my 03 GT Coupe I think the brakes are lot more better but I just need to give my brakes some more miles on them and they will probably be going out soon but right now I have 5000 miles on my original brakes and I'm happy they are going strong so far:thumbs:

It's all size of brake compared to weight of car.....grand am weighs too much for the brakes we're given, sunfires don't.

Wow, 5K. You're one of the lucky ones :D
Mine had to be resurfaced (all 4) at 4K miles.

Speaking of lucky....I've had my Powerslots/EBC greenstuff pads for 4k miles. The Powerslots are warped, and EBC pads are gone. Lucky.

wow, brakes going out soon on a 5K car, hell... I still consider my car pretty much brand new @ 20K, out of any car i have ever owned, i wouldnt ever think about brake replacement just after 20K, but for GM apparently, this seems to be normal.
Grand ams brakes and their incompetence is nothing short of unspeakable

What I can't understand is why a company the size of GM can't perfect such a vital piece of equipment as brakes. By now they ought to have it down. What are they paying their engineers for?

seems like we have similar luck. mine powerslots and ebc pads did the same. but turned out I had a bad Right Caliper and the right side brake hose had a small leak in it which i sure didnt help any.

my brakes are like brand new and I have 71k on the car, about 15k on the brakes. Rotors are a bit warped but I assume there factory anyways.

Both the GA and my SS have had break warping issues. GM rotors suck. Napa replacement rotors are far superior to the stockers.

Yeah I can agree, the rotors suck.
I have a '91 toyota with the original rotors. still smooth when stopping.
