I have never heard a pioneer amp, are they any good? I was looking at the Premier line, just to run my highs.

i was looking at this amp in particular, to run bridged. 130x2 (4 ohms)

vs. the alpine MRV T420, which is a little more money

Ya they are really good sounding amps and the premeir line has pretty powerful amps too. The regular line up is clean sounding but pretty weak on the power side. Let your ears be the final judge though. Peace, Lee

I'm sure they use very similar components to other companies that have amps around the same price. As long as you send it a decent signal I'm sure it will work just fine.

I just don't understand why the alpine is so much more expensive, when the Signal to Noise ratio is better on the pioner and the frequency responce is higher and the Total Harmonic Distortion is the same.

Because it has six little letters on the top. ALPINE It pays, or should I say it saves, to do your homework. Peace, Lee

don't get too caught up in looking at manufacturers specs. more than likely they are just built within certain tolerances and that gives you a general idea of what it is close to. Also I might even say some of them are useless. If my amp has a frequency response of 0 Hz to 100 kHz that really doesn't make it any better than an amp with a response of 10 hz to 30 kHz.

In order to really say whether it is worth the extra money or not... you'd have to bench test both amps and see if they really put out the same amount of power.

also consider how the pioneer THD is rated... 4 ohm @ 1 kHz.
If you are bridging it that makes it seem like a 2 ohm load to each channel which will increase the distortion quite a bit.

The real question... will you be able to hear the difference? Probably not. :)

All good points so basically put, you are the only one that can say what amp sounds good as the fact that what you like may not be the same as what I like. Peace out, Lee
