Well temporarily before I go and get my cone tomorrow morning I took my airbox out, and just left the MAF Screen sittin there, and I could tell the difference... This leads to believe a WAI is sufficent enough for power gains? Also do they sell aftermarket MAF Screen's that are less restrictive?

You mean you ran the car without an air filter?

You're asking for major trouble pal...

Yeah, running without an air filter...are you insane??? Also, why would anyone ever sell an aftermarket MAF screen? The point of it is to straighten out the airflow so the sensor gets a better reading...how would you increase the flow while still straightening the airflow? Just pop the damn thing out.

Yeah, a WAI will give you some power gains. The trouble is, engine temperature is inversely proportional to performance with WAI. That means you cruise for a while, and your perfomance will go to hell.

i can vouch for that... i have a WAI and it gave me more gain when the engine is moving.... but sitting at a light while the intake gets warm from the engine, i dont feel that gain any more.

most people put an air box behind the filter where the engine is... so only cooler air will enter. but you might as well spend a few more dollars and get a CAI.

I dont race often, if any... so i made the intake mainly for the sound. makes the exhaust much more aggressive. so i'm pleased :)

First off, you're going to blow your motor by running without a filter. You get any thing larger than parasitic dust into your cylinder, and :(

Second, no MAF screens, either leave it in or take it out (that's what I did).

You guys are so gay lol... I said temporarily til I get the filter in the morning... Damn y'all go so damn crazy...

Oh and I'm sure dust gets past that MAF Screen... No matter what you have on there

his car... his right to do whatever... lol

i just wouldnt do it too long (like more than 5 minutes :D )... its too much of a gamble. insects and other debris would do a hell of alot of damage.

I ran at the track without a filter once....but slapped it on right after the race. That can be pretty dangerous.

Ooop the no-filter mod. I accidentally ran that at GAP. Kubiache also ran that i believe.

See... It would be hard for debris to fly off the road in the ram air which is desembled and go thru those tiny ass MAF screens holes

It's not all about debris...it's about dust and small dirt particles that are floating in the air. Hey, as long as you got the filter on this morning and didn't have any problems, congrats. I was just concerned for you and your motor.

Running without a filter is not a good thing, but it is not going to hurt much if you only run it for a short while.

Stock/paper air filters only filter out 90% (around that, not sure) of the crap you do not want in your engine and a K&N filters out even less. Engines have a tolerance for how much dirt they can burn through without causing any significant damage (I think GM says 70% or better is good enough). Just cause you have a filter does not mean that dirt is not getting to the engine.
