I had a high flow cat installed and it tripped the SES light for code P0420. I really don't want to get an O2 simulator if I don't have to as I don't know if it'll be able to go through emissions like that. Anybody know what I can do to resolve this?

Either get rid of the high flow cat, or get an o2 simulator....those are your only options.

I don't know about PA, but in IL as long as you're not throwing any emission-related codes, you pass emissions. o2 sims of course don't throw codes, prevent that from happening in fact, so with that you should pass.

Conditions for Setting DTC P0420

The PCM determines that the catalyst's oxygen storage capacity is below an acceptable threshold.

. Yup :) . The only way to solve that is get an o2 sim, or get a better cat.

I had the same exact problem, I'm glad to know I'm not alone, I ordered the O2 sim last saturday it should be in by now and I'll let you know how it goes, if you find out anything let me know.

Awesome! The o2 sim install is easy as hell. Just unplug the wiring harness for the o2 sensor, plug in the o2 sim.

I wouldn't suggest taking out the o2 sensor, unless you have something like a plug to put in its place. If you're leaving it in, make sure you have zip ties ready to secure the wiring. Don't want that stuff bouncing around on the road if the clips happen to pop off.
