Hey guys, I'm ****ed! So, I go today for my first day of school, COME OUT and I have a HUGE scratch down my passenger side door. NOT happy. Anyways, my question is, are there any procedures I can take to avoid this kind of crap? I try to park as far out as possible, but my schools so busy, that it's impossible to NOT have someone parked next to you.. Has anyone else here ever been keyed? I have a Black 2002 Grand AM GT w/ lots of Zaino. Maybe I should just NEVER wash it? I dunno. Anyone else ever have a prob?

The best solution is to not **** people off....
Most importanly, if you are ever in a parking lot that ever gets crowded, DO NOT take up more than one space. I used to work at a movie theatre and we would always have people with brand new cars complain that they got keyed, but when we got to their car to look, they were taking up 2 spots and the lot was packed....
Even if the lot isn't full when you park, it could be when you are done with whatever you were doing....

Buy lots of guns! That would make me sooooooo mad!!!!! I park far out as well, but ive heard that parking crooked means that if you get hit, your insurance wont cover it cause a cop would say its your fault for being parked wrong. Anyone else know about this?

I haven't heard of it but I don't believe so Rba since if your cars hit it could have moved. But, I understand what you're saying and it does sound like it could be logical. I don't think they can do that though (I may be wrong of couse :)) Things is how many old people wouldn't be covered then since they can't drive worth crap?
Sorry to hear about your car man! I do agree with Peeps when he says not to **** anyone off! I have a friend who likes to shout crap out of my car as we're driving and I get so mad because who knows when that person sees my car next and say's "hey thats the jackass that was saying crap to us" and then does something to my car
If you have another way to get to school, do that. I know it sounds rediculous, but if your car is going to get scratched all the time, it might be worth it.
Buy a beater car, and when you need to park in a parking lot, consider taking that instead. I have come out of stores to find shopping carts up against my car two times this summer alone. Both carts had protection on the corners, but the first one rode up the front bumper and put 3 scratches about 2-3 inches long on the front "nostrils". I was ****ED. The second one hit the door flush so the protection on the cart saved me.
I always choose VERY carefully where I park. I no longer park too much in the open now because many lots are sloped, and by parking in the open you increase your chances of a cart hitting YOUR car. If you park downhill from a car it will act as a blocker.
I also only ever park next to four door cars. Their doors are shorter and less chance their dorrs will even reach your car.
You should also park next to a nice car.. one nicer than yours if possible. Then, odds are that car will get the attention over yours, and odds are they will care about their car just as much as you care about yours.
I agree with the others also.. never park in a way that draws attention to your car. If some moron wants to key a car, he is doing it to **** someone off... if he sees a car taking two spots, his thought is.. "I'll show that prick", etc.
Other than that, there really is not anything you can do unless maybe a proximity alarm, but that could **** people off enough to key your car just in spite of the alarm.
I know where you are coming from by having a new car at college. Some people will dispise you just because they are jealous. They will assume you are a mommy suck. I had a new car in college (that my wife and I bought at age 20), and I would get some comments on being a mommy suck etc.

yea i agree with peeps and Vagt don't **** anyone off or talk to much about your car at school if at all possible. i went back to school to just buy my books and i already had notes on my car saying they would key it if i parked in that spot again. so yea just try and use common sense.

Your car is black, its easily fixed.
Dab on some touch-up paint, alot.
Let dry overnight.
Get a good sander and wet sand it smooth and flat with 12-1500 grit paper...I use 1500
The paint will look like crap, everything you sanded will turn white and be all scratched.
Take a buffer to it then some Zaino, and waalaaaa, its gone.
I've done it to my Grand National many times.
If you do it right you will have to look real hard for the scratch.
Try it out you'll be amazed. Save your self lots of cash, because if you take it to a body shop, unless you get the whole side of the car painted $$$, this is exaclty what they will do.

That sucks. My 86 black Trans Am was keyed up really bad. I had it parked at a festival for about a half an hour or so. I didn't notice unitl the next day when I pulled it out of the garage that there was a big "X" keyed on the hood, and they keyed it along the whole side of the car. They keyed it down to the metal also. Sorry to hear about that buddy, I know how you feel.
