A friend of mine wants to put slight purplish ghost flames on her 01 Black GAGT Sedan (she's been savin the $$$ ) , but she's afraid they might not look too hot. Anybody got shots of a GAGT with ghost flames? I dont think I've ever heard or seen one with ghost flames. What you all think?

yeah, i've been asking around about prices, and it's not cheap. that was my "secret mod" but most of the people i talk to know anyway, so i might as well post it. most of the quotes that i've gotten have been around 2000-3000....i've decided to put it off till the spring anyway...

Here is another angle. This is not my car so don't ask me anything about it, I just have these pics saved on my computer from a long time ago.

played out and will make your car's value decrease 2 fold of what it is now.
What do you think you will get for your car if you try to trade a Grand Am in with flames painted on it?
More and more recently I have been taking into consideration trade in value....we all know it, but our cars suck the big one!
BTW, Motor Trend or Car&Driver, can't remember which, had a little note on the car worlds biggest market changes. A who's hot and who's not kinda thing.
Best - Impala up 41%
Worst - Grand Am down 17.9%
At least the two outliers were GM

Played out? In my area, practically no one has ghost flames. I think like 2 Silverados have ghost flames, both done by the same guy. They look hella nice.

True that. Bought my 02 GAGT with like less than 1 mile on it for 24 grand back in November. Looked in an AutoBuy yesterday, saw an identical GAGT at the same dealership for 11 grand with only like 14000 miles. :crying: :nono:

i'm gonna agree with team...i haven't seen any grand am's around here with ghost flames, let alone other cars with them. i saw one at a car show...a yellow corvette...and that's what sparked my interest. not all of us are planning on trading in our GA's anytime soon, and to be honest bob, i don't understand why you care so much about what other ppl want to do to their cars, and their reasoning behind it. why'd you buy a supercharger for your grand am? if you knew it was slow and wanted a fast car, then why didn't you just buy a fast car in the first place, instead of saying how "crappy" our cars are??? you keep knockin everyone anytime you don't like something they want to do...go punch a pillow or something.

the only problem with vinyl is that it defeats the whole purpose of being "ghost" flames, cuz you will be able to see them raised off the car. i was thinking about getting the vinyl with clear coat on top cuz it's a lot cheaper than paint, but like it's been said before...you get what you pay for.

I think you are paranoid about the vinyl stickin out.. Any good vinyl place can lay it correctly and it will look good. If you want to see what I'm talkin about, go get a sample and slap it on the side of your car, then judge. Also where you live, don't waste your money on custom paint until you get a garage spot.

yeah I dont think you would notice it much at all. Go with that

As long as you get 2mil vinyl (best stuff) you will hardly notice. I can send you a piece if you want to try it out.

is it "see through" tho? i don't want you to be able to see the flames from far away... if it's not, i'll just run you over again ;) hehehe

Real ghost flames are merely clearcoat w/ some tint to it. Start light w/ the tint on the outer edges, getting darker & filling in as you get to the end of the flames. When I do, let' say 4 example, silver.... I start out w/ PPG 2000 clear & a bit of charcoal tint in it, very light as a matter a fact. Then I just add a part of tint as I go towards the end I usualy end up w/ 4 diff. shades blended over each other. Not that hard. then just clear the whole panel(s) again after it flashes. You can do all sorts of variants w/ metalics in the clear, as well as crushed pearl but then they really aren't the true traditional ghost flames. Note: good clear coat aint cheap to begin with, then a painter who does custom isn't cheap either. So if anyone can get it done around a grand I say go 4 it as long as you know the guy knows what he's doing. also, if you want it to be flush & smooth, they'll have to lay down atleast 3 fgood heavy coats & then wetsand the tapeline smooth & rub it up to a shine. - that costs too.

In my opinion which is only that and is not aimed to offend anyone, i think that the black car with the silver front on fire is ugly as sin, because the color scheme is terrible and the flames hardly reach back and.....who wants two tone paint in that kind of display? not me. i think the car with the sort of mysterious decals on the side was WAAAY cooler looking. again, that's just my opinion. i wouldnt pay $1000 much less $4000 for something that bad. but it's you not me

I don't care 4 it either. I agree on the color scheme but going along the lines of what you said. To each thier own, what some may not like others will & everyones got thier own tastes.
