i told the guy doing my head work that i wanted stiffer springs, and i told him guys on the board mentioned using LS-1 springs, so he looked in his Comp catalog, and look at a 94 3.4 chevy springs, and found some, my question is, will it work? he says it will, and he does racing motors for a living. should i try them, or just go the safe route and use the LS-1 springs?

Yeah they will But you really have no need for them right now When you get a cam LS-1 spring and retiners will work great. But for right now i would spend the money elcewhere.

well, i might as well do it now, cuz i dont want to take apart the whole top end, if i dont end up getting a cam ya know, im trying to change everything i can while im at it.

Yeah but the Point I was getting at was your not going to see any more of a power increase with LS1 Components.

Does anyone really know if the LS1 springs will work? I haven't heard anything about this yet. Do they bolt on, or do the heads have to be modified? Does anyone actually have them on their car yet??? That's the big question I want answered.

Yes, they fit, but you have to use OEM LS1 spring seats and retainers (at least i would use the retainers hehe). That opens up your choices in valve springs quite significantly.

Well alrighty then. I'm going to have my dad look into ordering me all those parts, and see how much it will cost. I have a set of heads off the car right now anyway and I don't think I'll have time to install them for a while. I'll be the one to try it.

BTW, does anyone know off hand what the difference in spring rates will be?

Don't order them until you figure out what cam profile your going with. Right now they are over kill and you dont want to change em twice!

what if im not getting a cam, at least not yet, cant i still put the LS-1 springs on there for now?

and also, my main concern was that my machinist suggested that 3.4 Comp valve springs for a 94 chevy motor wold work? any ideas

IF he is talking about the 94 DOHC Not a chanse.

Are you planning to take of the head for any mod right now (IE a Port and polish?

If so put the springs in when the head is off.

If not dont bother with it you'll just end up spending more money on the labour of pulling the heads, wait untill you do the head work.

okay, yeah, i dint think those would fit, he doesnt do too many small v6 engines, mostly race motors so thats why he prolly thought they would work, and yes i am having him do a pnp, valve job, and bowl work, the works, so the heads will be off.

He could be talking springs from a 93-95 3.4SFI iron head... the ones that came in the Camaros and Firebirds. Not sure if they would fit or not though...

I'm using my stock cam (since no one makes a cam yet and I'm not wasting money on a regrind). At GAP spoon said that the stock valve springs can start to float as early as 5600rpm, especially in higher milage engines where the springs can be fatigued and lose tension. I think some stiffer springs would be a good idea since my redline is 6300rpm, I'm running 9psi of boost (soon to be higher), and I have a set of heads off the car right now ready to work on. Again, does anyone know the spring rates of the stock springs and the LS1 springs? Would the Ls1 springs be too stiff for a stock cam? If so, are there any other springs I could use that don't require machining or other major modifications to work? If not, I'm just going to put these things on the car the way they are because I'm tired for waiting for parts or info from people who don't know any more than me, and I'm tired of waiting for companies to wake up and smell the F^(1<ing coffee and realize there is a market for the GA and people like me willing to spend stupid amounts of money on it!

Thanks Wayne. Now I've got something to work with now if I decide to look for a compatible spring.
