Well i ordered them finaly! I waited for a month to order these bad boys. Big problem though. I have to waite 3-4 weeks for them because they do not have them in stock and they have to send them out to get coated. This sucks. Even though they told me in e-mails that they where in stock and ready for shipping. I am a little furious about this situation. I was hoping not to play the waiting game. I have no other options though.

3-4 weeks is better than the now almost 5 months (11 days shy) that the TOG group purchase has been going on. And yeah, you will love them. I never even installed mine and I loved them!!

I hope you guys are right on the loving them part. It just upsets me because every time i order something and they tell me something like 3-4 weeks and 6 months later i get it. With my luck this will turn into a 6 month waite. I dont have 6 months to waite. I have other projects i would like to get started on. I have a bad feeling about this.

They told me "2 weeks" on my flex pipe, and I got it 5 days later.....so maybe you'll luck out and it'll only be 2 weeks.

When I ordered mine they had one set in stock but they had to send them out to be coated. From order to delivery it took them a little over 3 weeks. From what they told me, it sounded like Jet Hot was goofin around.

You will love them though, well worth the wait!

Don't make me go into my waiting for DHP story...

They're worth it, man. Besides, most of us who already have them ordered them before they were "officially" available, so we all had to wait for them.

How much did you guys pay for the headers?

www.bosstools.com has all of the standard prices.

Or www.ssheaders.com for their main page.

Raw, headers+flex+cat, $700
Coated, headers+flext+cat, $850

I don't see them on the site, but you can buy just the headers, uncoated for $350, coated for $500, unless they changed the prices.

Also, if you call them up, you can order the flex without a cat attached for only $70, or the flex/cat alone for $350.

I got mine back in May for $315.00 Uncoated (10% Christmas Sale) + a Flex/Downpipe for $75.00. I have had no problems with the heades at all. I love the pull 1/2 way through 2nd gear.......

I got the uncoated ones from someone who never installed theirs, got them ceramic coated locally for $160 (same quality as jet hot, not the same price), and the $70 flex, and a Magnaflow/Carsound high flow cat from eBay for $50....couldn't be happier with my setup!

Its actaully cheap i think. They only charged me $20 for shipping. I am extremely excited. I just hope they get a move on on these. If i dont have them in 4 weeks im calling and canceling my order. With my luck this will happen. It sucks because i was planing on haveing them installed and done with in 3-4 weeks not waite just for the headers for 3-4 weeks. I am still upset about it.

PontiacGT2K
10-03-2003, 12:09 PM
Just be patient man.....they're worth a 4 week wait...geesh.

Speaking of wait.....I waited a month after I recieved them to install. Then, I turned on the car, all the paint chipped off (****ing bastard who painted them ****ed up, I still wanna kill him). So, I drove around for a day with no paint on them, then threw the car on jackstands and took em back off.

3 weeks, and $160 later, my headers were sent back to me ceramic coated. I installed not even 10 minutes after I got them, but had to go get them welded up, so waited another 3 days.

Not only did my headers go on a month after initial install date, I did all the work myself.....twice. And I'm still telling you it's worth it.

I was starting to get pi$$ed when the third week arrived. But once you get them on you will forget all of the cuts, scrapes, bruses, and waiting because they do kick a$$!

What I did to pass time was I started taken stuff off about two weeks before they came to keep me occupied (I am glad that I did), and just drove my winter beater around.

Is that after your header install, or using nitrous?

I will waite for them even if they get over 4 weeks waite, i was just blowin steam. They will be installed imediatley when they arrive. I am wondering what this will do to my quarter mile time. I havent gone yet but next spring will be my first time goin to the track. Any geuss's? All i have is doctorspeed CAI stage 3r, magnaflow setup, 2.5 pipe, big wires and better plugs and of course headers. Not alot but better than stock. Man the excitement is killing me.

Black2K1GT

I don't know exact 1/4 mile differences (maybe PontiacGT2K can answer) but, the car freakin screams after 3k (rpm). Total difference! And I still have the 2 1/4 exhaust pipe!

PontiacGT2K
10-03-2003, 12:46 PM
I ran a 15 flat using drag radials.... 15.4 using my tires which are bald as a muv (just headers/exhaust).

The 14.5 was with a really empty nitrous bottle, and my tires. With better tires, full bottle, my APOC intake which is still on backorder, and a lil tuning, I'll be low 14's no problem on nitrous.

10-03-2003, 01:28 PM
I am not gonna use nitrous quite yet. I dont think im ready for such a thing. I want to but i need to do more research on it. I know nothing about it.

PontiacGT2K
10-03-2003, 01:33 PM
I wasn't suggesting you do use nitrous. With intake, headers, exhaust....I'm guessing you'll run anywhere from 15 flat to 15.5 depending on the car, track conditions, and a million other variables that go into that.

Yeah i know there is alot that has to do with how the outcome will be. I was wondering how many people actaully have headers? How many do you know of?

PontiacGT2K
10-03-2003, 02:17 PM
From the looks of it, like 10 or 15 actually have them installed. 20 or so people will be recieving theirs in a week or two from the TOG group buy.

I geuss thats okay. I wanted to have something most GA owners dont have.

Hey PontiacGT2K or anyone else.....

Do you know how long the flexpipe is in inches? I was wondering if I could get away with purchasing one of those off ebay. THey are 2.5" diameter w/ both 6" and 8" versions. for like 30 shipped

alright stupid question. I've been all about body work so far, so engine stuff is new to me. I bought the headers off of Craig yesterday. Do i need anything else for these to bolt up??? Thanks

X-ception - If I had to guess without wihtout crawling under my car it, I'd say it's 6", it's not very big. PontiacGT2k doesn't have the flex pipe.

Eric - The only thing that you'll need is gaskets, and some extra dexcool...and a lot of patience.

Coupe - now that I know who you are, let me know if you need help putting those bad boys on.

I measured it before install....I believe it only comes with a 4.5" flex section. You'd be better off with something longer, IMO. Make sure the 45* bend from header collector to flex section is either 3"+ crush bent, or 2.5" mandrel bent......you don't want bad flow right there, considering it's where velocity sorta needs to be the highest it can be.

The flex/bend thing I ordered is the same as yours Kubiache, minus the high flow cat welded on.

X-Ception: If you're going custom, I would suggest going the same route as I, $70 for a mandrel bent pipe after the collector, and comes with the flex section from S&S (it's not on the web site, you have to call them).

I'm gonna order a set of these as soon as my replacement bank card shows up. (D'OH!)

Glad to know about the $70 flex pipe. I'll probably be studying your install proceedures a lot G2K!!

Hey Clark75, last time I spoke to the about my order they were telling me something about they found out that the Monte Carlo's uses a 2 bolt flang instead of a 3 bolt flang which makes their flexpipe incompatible with you vehicle. You may want to give them a call before ordering.

Glad to know about the $70 flex pipe. I'll probably be studying your install proceedures a lot G2K!! If I were you, I'd just get a universal flex off of eBay, and have it welded up to a flange or something. You don't have that 30* bend like we do, so you don't have to worry about that! Grrrr.....damn 3800's always winning

whats the advantage of having the flex pipe. and also where can i get the gaskets for the install.

PontiacGT2K
10-10-2003, 01:06 PM
Flex pipe saves your headers from cracking/bending when they're really hot, your exhaust bounces around. It's just a safety thing, I would def. get one.

The gaskets for the primares need to be made by hand, either by cutting stock manifold gaskets or making your own out of header material (both ways has been done). I have pictures in one of my threads from a few months ago of the cut gaskets, do a search for it cuz I'm lazy and I'm at work, no time.

kubiache

Rev your engine and watch how much it moves. The flex pipe absorbs some of that movement so it's not putting stress on a solid pipe.

Hey my slow connection strikes again.

We just cut stock gaskets on mine also. New gaskets, but stock.

Nice of you to offer that man. My girls dad is doing it for me. He owns a couple muffler mans. Well 3 to be exact. I am replacing my SLP with mags and one of a kind exhaust tips. This is gonna cost me about $150 total. Its the best deal i have ever gotten. I did ask him about the flex pipe and all he said is he can fab one that is just as good as any one that you could buy. I am still worried however, i shouldnt be but i am. I have another 3 weeks to even get these bad boys, so i have been trying to keep myself busy to keep my mind off of them. Its killing me.

Naaw, I got the 3400 too... that's why I joined this board, due to the wealth of performance discussions here. Same engine, but my car weighs a few hundred pounds more. Not sure if the gear ratio final drive is the same either. I plan on upgrading mine to a 3.69 final drive.

Thanks for the heads up on the flange. I'll crawl under my car and check it out. I know a guy that can weld me up a flex pipe, so i might be good in that department.

It doesn't come with the car originally. I think it is from a minivan or something. If you want I can give you the part numbers to order from gmpd.com or wherever you get your GM stuff from.

There will be vinyl overlays available in the next week or 2 for the "3400 SFI" on the engine cover.
