Don't ask me how...as soon as my 180 degree T-stat was installed, my low beams quit on me, and all I had were DRL's and high beams. I've been driving around with my blackouts on without fogs, and can't see a thing! Anyways, a guy at my shop checked it, and apparently my BCM went out al together. He said it had nothing to do with the thermostat install, that they just go out. Replacement was $250, but with the discount and all, I ended up paying $125. My question here is: should I pay the guy on the side to put it in for $20, or let the shop do it for the hourly labor of $80? If he does it on the side, I have no warranty, which is the only downside. I'm kinda leaning towards the warranty, just in case something else happens though.

Save the money.. and put on the BCM yourself.. its just located behind the glove box. And has 3 or 4 big main harnesses. All you need to do is unbolt the BCM.. unplug harnesses .. plug in harnesses to new BCM and bolt back in the BCM.

It should only take ya 15-30 minutes.

Exactly...I should probably just leave it to the techs. Even if I have the guy do it on the side for less money, he already knows how to program it. Makes things a lot simpler for me. Anyone know the other guy who they thought was having a similar problem?

GM's published rate is .6 hours to replace so even at $85/hr that's $51 value. Theonly real programming is for the passlock, all devices hav to be synched up with the same codes or they will think there's something strange going on but I THINK that it can be done same way as replacing the ECU, with the "leave key on run without cranking for x minutes..." The dealer or anyone with a TECH-2 can program it for the antitheft quicker.
