The Lucas oil Stabalizer? If I dont get any good responses I'm going for the Amsoil 5W30. Some good posts with the Amsoil stuff in here.

Also for the Amsoil users, did you get the Amsoil oil filter also and how long do you go between oil changes? Will you take the 1 year challenge between changing the oil?

ok, after researching this product yesterday, I will try it on next oil change and let you all know if it quiets the start up clatter.

1/2dolla,
I've been doing some experimenting with additives to see if I can do something about the piston slap that just started on my GT about 1K miles ago. It's a mechanical (not a lubrication) issue, but over at bobistheoilguy.com, many members have had success in treating piston slap by adding 8oz. of 132 Moly E.P. Moly Oil Treatment (http://www.schaefferoil.com/data/132.html). It only costs $4 a pint, so I don't have much to lose. I recently put some in with my M1 5W30 and it's already beginning to go away. I takes a while for the moly to plate up, so I'm going to give it some more time. You can add up to a pint of this to 5 quarts of oil. If that doesn't work, then I'm going to try some Redline because it's loaded with moly. Since Mobil 1 is a bit thinner than typical xW30 oils, it wouldn't hurt to thicken it up a bit anyway.

You might want to check out these Timken tests (http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=000058#000000) of Lucas stabilizer, STP additive, Slick 50, and Schaeffers 132 E.P. Lucas didn't hold up too well.

nevermind about trying redline. I want to try it , but then I found out its $10 bucks a quart.

Sorry, but thats crazy. I guess either Castrol Syntec or Mobile 1 will be what I will try.

You should also check for Royal Purple. That's what I have in right now and I really like it. My engine seems to be running a little smoother than with my usual Mobil 1.

Where did you find it at that price? I get mine from My Oil Shop (http://www.myoilshop.com/index.html) for only $7 a quart. The owners are great!

The $10 bucks is what a local toyota and truck part place is selling it for. After shipping from My oil comp. its still $8.00 + per quart. I can get Mobil 1 for 20 bucks a gallon or better yet Royal Purple for $5.50 locally. I think I have settled on the RP.

Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil

A few years ago, I use to use Castrol Syntec [made for North American market only version] (because I could get it for like $5Cdn [$3.75US] per litre by the case vs $6Cdn [$4.50US] per litre by the case for Mobil 1)

Check out this article that someone here posted along time ago: from: Car & Driver: Synthetic motor oil gets all new semantics. (http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=27&article_id=3631)

But there are stories of German Castrol Syntec 0W30 [real synthetic] motor oil being recent available in the US.
Europe spec Castrol Syntec is real synthetic oil (they have a harder requirements to be labeled 'synthetic' oil).

what vicosity are you guys using, I think I am going to a thicker oil since I'm in the desert and it doesnt get very cold at all. I know the manual says only 30 wt. but I dont think a 40 wt would hurt. What do you think?

I am using the recommended 5W30 grade.
I would use 0W30 grade of Mobil 1 in the winter; if I could find it readily available here where I live

For you maybe a 10W30 grade (instead of the recommended 5W30 grade).

The stories about German Castrol Syntec 0W30 in North America are true. You can see the label in this thread (http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=003815). It definitely looks better than any of their other oils.
