ok the questions...... obviously all grand ams after 99 have the 4t45e or wahtever correct? ok anyways what is better in theory having a shift kit or the auto trans interceptor second ? with the trans interceptor can u have a tranny cooler and also where can i get the full kit install everything for 2000 grand am gt or where can ig et an actual shift kit is there anythign involved to do to the tranny after those mods (autotrans or shift kit/ tranny cooler)
Yes it is the 4T45E
To the best of my knowledge, there are no shift kits available. Your first and msot worth while tranny mod should be a tranny cooler, and the ATI is nice except that from what I have heard the shifts are VERY VERY firm, as in too firm.
I have heard talk about companys that are willing to beed up our trannies, but im not sure what is true and what is happening.

Dont take it as my bad mouthing it, ive never used it, I sayed I was going off of what ive HEARD from people who have used it.
And by firm, firm is good, it gives you a harder line pressure which keeps temperatures down

It bumps up the line pressure. Our trannies are programed to shift comfortably, and under power, they slip for that comfort. Slippage isn't good, so upping the line pressure gives a firmer shift. But I would not put anything on my transmission unless its a fortification package. Shift Kits, ATI, its all cheap and easy ways to blow your trans over time imo. Regardless of how you can adjust it, its still not good imo. My friend with a Z24 has the B&M and his tranny is almost shot. He says that he has "spider gears" and that its good to shift hard and it won't hurt them. Thats not what the trans shop said after replacing his "Spider Gears"

I would suggest the ATI from www.pfyc.com and a B&M trans cooler from www.summitracing.com . I've got both, and I'm pretty sure the trans is safe. Color of fluid has stayed pretty good, I wouldn't worry about it.
BTW: The ATI can be too firm if the wrong person adjusts it, and thinks "harder is better". At a certain point, the ATI will cause the lube going to the gears to shut off. So, make sure you only keep the ATI at like 25-50%. Any higher, I wouldn't suggest...

This is good to know. I am planning on getting both of those things very soon. VERY SOON.

from what've heard his problem is doesn't have the spider gears and that is why his trans is almost shot.
I'm selling a used autotrans for 100 bucks shipped. I loved it.

ATI is good, like people have said don't jack it up a lot. The only thing I did not like was that the line pressure increase is all the time.. so you have to get used to coming to complete stops when shifting into D from R, etc.. The shifting on it ruled though.
The only way you'll get line pressure increase that doesn't behave like that is with a PCM reprogram.

It was found by another member that the most efficient trans coolers (for the money, size) are the B&M.
He has the http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=BMM%2D70255 kit. Puts him in the 160 degree range.
I have the http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=BMM%2D70264 , also works really well, and is bigger (more cooling).
Install is easy...it comes with basic instructions, but there's a technical How To in the How To section.
My kit came with everything needed, but others say there isn't enough hose.
