Changing radio illumination color

hey guys...anyone experimented with this? I have that navigation unit out of a rendezvous and the lights behind the buttons and volume knob are green....don't match my orange (maybe its red?) dash lights too well. any ideas or suggestions --- or would I just be better off leaving it alone? thanks..

I use to know a guy in Colorado that could change that for you. Its only a matter of soldering in new bulbs. The trick is finding the right bulb, such as correct color and resistance. Ask around at any stereo shop and electronics fix it places. Good luck, Lee

Yeah, finding out the resistance and soldering in the new bulbs is all that's needed. If possible, I would use leds.

sometimes if they are 3mm light bulbs you can just change the color condoms on them.

I just took navigation unit out of my car and disected it. It has leds, however I didn't check what color. The buttons are green on the inside---looks like they were completely green then painted black with their markings on the outside, so I'm thinking maybe the bulbs are white. I thought about trying to paint the insides of the buttons but then I imagine no light would be shown through then.

if the plastic buttons are colored you are pretty much screwed.

They look like they are molded green, then painted black on the outside with their markings. I forgot to take your pictures but I will when i put unit back in. I just ordered navigation antenna as GMPartsDirect.com finally added it to their catalog.

If only I could this nav unit on ebay, then I could see what is possible. Haven't had any luck yet. :(
