I wanna swap out the Monsoon cd/tape player in my 02 GAGT1 with a newer deck, but would I be able to use the Volume Control and Search Control on my steering wheel with an aftermarket deck? My dad says I should just leave the stock one in, but I wanna get a deck with an "audio in" jack so i can hook up a ps2 to it. Thanks!

You can get an adapter that will allow you to use the steering wheel controls as long as the aftermarket head unit accepts remote control. Do a search on here and you will find detailed info about it.

i thought the monsoon deck does have rca inputs (cant remember)... but take out your deck and look behind it. might get lucky and wont need another deck for it.

You can use a PAC SWI-X to retain your steering wheel controls, I posted a how-to for its install in the how-to section or it's on PFYC's web site.
If all you want is an aux in, try using an RF modulator.

if its the same thing that im thinking of you can pick it up at circuit city or radio shack. i think about any store with an electronic section would have it.

It's like $50 and your new radio has to have a remote with it so that the learning remote can well learn the signal thingy.

sony wont work with it tho. i have it in my car, and we carry it at my work (Good Guys). i dunno if CC has it, but i HIGHLY doubt radio shack will have it. youre better off looking at an independant shop for it, and its more like $80 if i recall correctly, it was just under $50 at my cost.

You can get an RF mod from Circuit city for 39.99. not $80 plus you could also look at a few companies that carry plugs for factory radio to plug in where a cd changer would normaly go or the tape deck would go and they give you RCA's I think sound Gate might make them

PAC claims that some alpine decks dont need the SWIX but i have no clue how that woudl work, my alpine deck needed it. i guess a deck that has a plug for a wired remote could work, if you found a way of adapting. heres the problem...your steering wheel remote has only ONE wire coming from it. each button puts out a different voltage, thats how it controls it.

Sony used to have a wired remote a couple of years back that used and 1/8" miniplug. That wouldn't need a IR box like the SWIX.
My understanding of how the PAC SWI X works is that it is basically a programable remote control (kina like the ones you buy for your TV at Wal-Mart) except that it doesn't have buttons. Pac makes an adapter so that you plug the factory GM buttons into the remote control.

well, kinda what mattbatt said. you dont really plug it in, you cut the green wire off the factory wire harness and crimp it onto the swix input. then you have to program it. i dont see how the sony mini plug in back would work unless you had an adaptor.

you can get parts from American International to add RCA inputs/outputs to your stock deck. they make a lot of stuff for the monsoon and ac delco systems. I used to sell it. check into them.
