A lot of you said it was not/could not be true or jus pure BS.
That's kool, I can dig that, a newbie comming on the board and slingin round that he did a 141.1 with a single 12 and 400 watts.

What size box are you running? If you have a SPL box, sweet, but if you don't you can squeeze an extras 1-2dbs out of it.
For the people that were hitting over 150dbs allowed to sit in the car? If so I don't think the microphone was set right. Anything over 150 you are not allowed to sit in the vehicle. USAC rules. Anything over 150 is capable of stopping your heart. <-- that has been the rules at all the comps I have been to.

I would think most of you with a set of subs should be hitting at least 140+. If not then you need to do some tweeking. What frequency are you using? Do you open a door? Which way is your box facing? Are your boxes ported? Our team always hits above 140 at MECA shows and that mic is stiffer them USAC's meter. We range from 2 12's running on 450 watts to 3 15's running off 15,000 watts. I'm not trying to brag, just saying if you want some ideas on how to get higher numbers I would love to try and give you all a hand. Peace, Lee

Maybe I'm just getting old, but if I do remember from back in the day, even though you try and try to reach a certain spl (150db is quite high).....hearing loss is permanent....you don't get a second chance.....

You can sit in the car at 150 in most shows. Above 160 you cannot, that's the heart problem thing - it actually happened with Mark Fakuda back in '91 I think it was, an older judge in his Fosgate Blazer, the first run ever to break 160 Db.
With a Shocker and a DEI, it's possible, though it seems a bit high. If you tell me the setup is tuned specificly for SPL, I'll buy it - but if it's a music or SQL setup, I'd have to see it.
Knowing what it took to get 154 out of an S-10 X-cab with 2 15W3's in a +8 Db bandpass box, 4 times that power worth of U.S.Amps, and a crazy charging system, I'd have to say their mic was a little "loose". Got about the same score from a Dakota X-cab with a ported downfire with 2 Treo SS 15's and about 2k worth of Xtant class D juice. Not knockin' you guys - good job! - but I see that a lot these days at shows, to keep people hyped. Sad but true. :(
Also of note - I worked on a '95 Grand Am sedan in SLC with 9 12's and something like 6000 watts, only pulled 156 on an honest meter all sealed up. Of course, it had a bit of a sealing problem and blew the sunroof apart, too....

That mic was a little loose, at other comps hitting 150.x-151.x so it was about 1db high. I gain only about .4db from opening the door and hit the same # sealed up on the windsheild. I had to 12" Orion H2 subs and 1 Orion 2500d amp running @ .5ohm at that comp. That is off a stock electrical system, only upgraded big 3 wires. The box is sealed off from the trunk subs facing forward. It is tuned to 30hz, haha, I like listening to music also. here are some pics of that setup.

That looks like it would hurt LUCKYT. What frequency do you bump it at when you compete? Do you only open one door? Lee

I burp it at 44-45hz, I nly open a door sometimes. Depends where I am competing and for which organization is putting on the show. My friends keep telling me I need to start wearing hearing protection but I am already partially deaf, and not from car audio. So I tell them I need it htat loud just to be able to hear it. Hahaha

Have you tried a higher frequency with the door open? Like around 63-65 hz? Lee

My box now is tuned around 30hz and I am peaking @ 44hz, my old box with the same setup was tuned between 45-50 hz and was peaking at 49 hz. I am hitting Higher #'s with a lower tuned box, I think it matches my setup and subs better and also it sounds better. I was suprised but since it does like the lower tuning I do not have to change between a competition box and a daily driver box, this box works best for both. And since I had to build the box inside the trunk it would be a little hard to switch. I was thinking about removable ports but this box works best so far. I am switching to 15's for final and will do a little more experimenting but I think it is going to come out the same in the end.

Box in trunk/port facing twords back of car, sub facing back of car.
Back seat shoulder rest (where you put your back) removed.
Brand new stock (not my choice) two month old alt.
Running an semi tuned spl box.
Door at USACi comps has to be closed as well as the trunk in Super Stock (class I was in).
Not to to sure of my frequency on that day.
CHanged round my port like three times in two weeks...still not sure what is what from what comp. Sorry.
