Would it be possible to hook up a DVD player to the factory navigation unit. There aren't any RCA jacks or anything on the back?

if there are RCA cables back there... yes, really simple.
if there isnt, you'll have to pick up an FM modulator
do a search... theres been numerous discussions about the video aspect. good luck!

I was under the assumption FM Modulators only have audio in, not video, I did search and all I can find is FM Modulator discussions about audio in.

normally a video input would be on a lcd or tv.
do you have a screen already?

Probably what you would need is a video selector. This will allow you to run 2 video in options to one screen. You simply select which one you want to use. The FM modulator would be needed to allow sound from the radio speakers.

Well, I think I might have found something on www.nav-tv.com ...however, their pricing looks outrageous. I e-mailed them yet still no reply. They don't have anything specifically for the Rendezvous, however they do have Yukon which is the same unit --- http://www.nav-tv.com/gallery/yukondvd.jpg

Wow, nice. I would have given you that address before but I thought they had a module for the '03+ Navigator only.

I read some info on the factory Nav unit and appearantly, the unit can play DVDs. Once the vehicle is taken out of park, then DVD functionality is disabled. The car computer communicates with the factory Nav via the Class 2 databus and tells it when to enable and disable the DVD function.
With that said, since the GA is not shipped from the factory with a Nav, my guess is that the GA's computer does not communicate fully with the Nav's features. I could be wrong.

I read that also, and when I had the unit in the car it wouldn't play DVD's---I even tried it in park with the e-brake on. I don't think that it does just because the manual says nothing about DVD's, whereas the cadillac one does that is known to play while in park. I don't know---I'm gonna see how much it will cost to hook a DVD player up to it and maybe 2 headrest monitors.

I think I might just sell this factory navigation unit and buy an aftermarket indash. How much do you think this thing would go for on ebay? I seen a factory Mercedes one on there for $760 with another day to go.

By the way, it was a Caddilac Escalade that could play dvds through this screen. Or maybe it was the DVD entertainment system. I better read up again.

LOL, I do seriously think I am going to sell it though. By the time I hook up DVD player and all necessary things to make it work, I will have invested enough, if not more than I could buy an aftermarket in-dash for. The navigation really doesn't interest me as much as the DVD player, although I don't know how much I would actually use it. I never think "let's go out to the car and watch a movie." hehe

Pretty close..He wanted $500 for it and I got him down to $450 no tax. Plus I just spend $75 for the GPS antenna.
