The newer ones seem sturdier than the stock ones.. I think they've strengthened up the plastic or something. Just received 4.

I noticed the same thing when I replaced mine. I really think they switched to a better material. I changed to my APC bulbs as soon as I got my car (June 2000) and even then they seemed cheap. I can't believe mine lasted THIS long! I just recently replaced them a couple of weeks ago.

Mine took 2+ weeks to come from gmpartsdirect... So hopefully you don't have the same problem if time is an issue.

The site says, "...Gmpartsdirect.com does not ship parts outside the United States..." (like to Canada) :(

They are sold separately at the dealer so I imagine that GMPartsDirect operates the same way.

Broke mine when I changed my light as well... funny thing is it would have cost only $20 dollars to have the dealership change the bulb... quite the pain in the arse for a $5 savings... at least I know how to do it now I guess...

If you compare the two (old and new design) you will notice that the newer is a little smaller in width. And close inspection reveals that this is the 5th version. My old one had a ver3 written on it and the new: ver5

I dont know what i got but it was a HELL of alot thicker and stronger than what WAS in there. For $9 from the dealer im not complaining.

Yeah, much, much, much better and thicker....I don't think these'll break. $9 is a good buy coupe.....I saw the list was 14.95 and cost was either 4 something or 8 something.

If an O-ring breaks is it possible we can do without it or find any other alternatives besides purchasing another one?

Well I was out of town and needed the headlight replaced and I didn't want to change it in 10 degree sub zero windchills, so I went somewhere to have it done and they told me that the piece was already broken(I say bull) I said I changed the drivers side headlight before but never the passenger which is the one that they changed and then they asked me if the car was bought used and I said no, they said they would try to get it in as best they could, now it just seems a tad crooked when I have my lights on behind a car. They showed me the piece that was broken and two clips were missing and one was dangling I am just curious what they did to make it fit? I am thinking they duck taped it but I dunno. When I get back home I might file a complaint with the BBB on the certain company I had replace my headlight.

Seems like alot of work for just a $9 plastic ring.

I finally got a new O-ring and installed it but I must say whoever installed my headlight did one hell of a shiatty job doing it cause not only did they break the O-ring I also noticed the metal clips that hold the assembly in looked as if they were bent back instead of just being pulled up.
One lesson I learned is to always do simple mechanical work myself.

you can use duct tape but when i used it came off because my headlight bulbs were to hot and i couldnt buy a new one cause the dealer didnt have it in stock so i just JB WELD it haven't had no problems at all so you can also try JB-WELD
coupe

JB-weld is just as dumb though.
Good luck replaceing the bulb when you need to.
