hey guys, i have a question about sirens...

i have an autopage alarm system, with one siren mounted somewhere in the engine bay, and i just installed some strobes, and i want to mount a "police siren" type thing that will, obviously, make a police type noise...(this is all for fun mind you, no impersonating officers or that kind of $hit cause i dont need to be in jail) but anyway, im wondering if i can somehow use that new police siren with my alarm system, so as to have two sirens connected to my alarm, and still be able to use the police siren by itself when i want to show off the strobes and who police effect...

can this be done? adding a siren to the alarm system but still have it functional by itself?

Yes... get acclimated to using relays and anything is possible

I think it's still illegal to use a police siren as your alarm on your car. I'm no expert so don't take my word for it.

Maybe not illegal since it's parked... but if it went off often and annoyed your neighbors.. expect a trash can through your windshield at some point :\

well thats the thing, im not trying to look like a police officer, im just trying to get a little toned down version with some strobes and a siren...so its not a real police siren i dont think...its one from radio shack for like 50 cdn...i believe it was 110 watts or something...is that going to be loud enough to warrant trash cans thru the windshield and the like? lol

and thanks seth, i'll look into the relay idea...is it essentially something as simple as tapping the alarm wire such that the new alarm is hooked up in paralell, but with a relay between the tap and the new horn? or is that the stupidest idea you've ever heard? lol i have little experience with relays...gonna read up, but if you want to throw in a quick explanation of the circuit it would be greatly appreciated...

I will tell you that working with REAL police sirens everyday that 110 watts is ungodly loud.
