Ok...I need to rant about GM and their 4T60E.
I love the transmission and heard of no one having problems with it, exept me. In May of 02, I was going to my grandmothers house to do her lawn. Everything was fine untill I got about half way there and I had to stop for a red light (ya, I usually go thru them j/k). When I went go to take off from the light, my engine was working hard but I was barley moving. I did not have a clue why. I pulled over and started to diagnose it. After checking out a few things, I found that the transmission was not downshifting into 1nd gear and I was having 2nd gear take offs. I though nothing of it and drove it around another week till I could get it looked out. Well that week later, I was making a right turn, and my RPM's shot up and I heard a clank, bing, boom. My transmission case exploded all over Gratiot. I took it to the shop, and they found that the shifting solenoid was toasted, and the line pressure was bumped up too much (even thought it was stock) and caused the case to explode. So one week and $1675 later, I get my car back with a 6 months, 6000 mile warrenty.
A year goes by, no problems with my transmission other then when i take turns, it slips into neutral. My transmission shop told me that this was common on these transmissions and there is nothing they can do. So after it going into neutral then going into gear a few times at 4500 RPM's, I blew out a one-way clutch inside the transmission. So I take it back and ask them for another rebuild, and they offer me stronger clutch packs and a custom valvebody. I also ask them to install a 3.29 gear instead of the stock 2.96. They agree, and $1800 later, its all finished up. I get the car back but it will not shift gears. They told me it was due to the gearing, but I have talked to other people that did this and have not had 1 problem with that. I was also running a ABS light after they fixed the car too. My speedometer was also not working, and they blamed this on the gear change. Upon inspection of all my wires, I find that a few ABS wires, speed sensor wires, and oil pressure sensor wires were cut and grounded out into the bellhousing. I ask them about it and they deny it, saying they do not due electrical work to the car. I was able to get the speedometer working to where the car shifts, but shifts very slow due to ABS and grounding problems. Because of this, the transmission burnt up. I took the transmission back to them, and told them that the gear is not causing this, and its what they did to the electrical system. So I ask them to rebuild it, since their warrenty was only 1 month old. They say that they told me they would not warrenty this, but there is nothing on my recipt saying this. After arguing them with, they agreed that I will pay for the price of the stock gear and they will do this one warrenty and thats it. They rebuild it with the stock gear, and it still doesnt shift. They find the problem to be with the way wires were grounded out, that they messed up in the first place. So now the car shifts fine and runs good. I ask them for the price on the gear, and they say gear, parts, and cost to fix the electrical problem is $800. I went ape-**** because they never told me about cost for parts and electrical till after they did the work, and MI law says that anything over like $75 cannot be charged unless they get my approval first.
I decide to look over all my old recipts, and I find that there is a spot on there stating that I cannot have my car back unless my bill is paid in full, and I was suppose to sign and agree to that and the price stated. I never signed it now was a price stated to me till all the work was performed. I took this to the police station and get the police involved. They show up and the co-owner of the shop states that I messed it all up by racing, and they rebuilt it 3 times for free but have no proof or recipts of this. Now when I called them and said the police are coming, they threatened to pull the transmission and leave it in the parking lot with the keys in it for me to tow away. But asfter talking with the police and owner, we come to an agreement to pay for the gear. When he was describing the price also, he said that the warrenty covers labor only, and not parts. brand new parts do not get a warrenty which I find very funny. They also had my car blocked in by 6 other cars when I went to go pick it up also, which I found very offensive. They also stated that they would install Kevlar clutch packs, then said they didnt have them. Then they stated they would install redline parts and I asked for proof, and I didnt get any. So I have no clue if I paid for stuff that isnt there. I pay and get my car back, all fine.
Now here it is, 3 months later and my car will not shift into 1st gear anymore. Its 2nd gear starting. So I am about 100% sure that the solenoids went again, even though they are 3 months old. I dunno what to do, because the trans shop said they will not warrenty this, but will Coach and Motor Warrenty their parts? Also, if I find out that they did not install redline parts on my car and used standard ones and charged me more, is there any ground for a lawsuit? Thanks for listining to my rant, and please give me some help!!
