Hello everyone. I am going to try to find a factory CD/Radio for a '99 Grand Am from a junk yard around here. But first I wanted to know if anyone has done this before? Is it hard? Would anyone grand am between 99-03 have the same CD player that can fit? Does anyone have the step by step to do it? Thanks.

So you can not take a '99-'00 radio and put it into your '01. It is a different size, different connectors, and different electronics. The '01+ uses databus.

Thanks for the pics.
I was planning on getting a deck from '99-00 since I knew they moved to a different deck in '01+. Hopfully I can find a junk yard with one.

Why would you want to switch your '01 headunit with one out of a '99-'00??? I'm confused.

Sorry I just changed my profile. My lease ended on the '01 GrandAm so I bought a used 1999 GrandAM SE V6 and it only has the Radio/Tape deck in it. So that's why I need to get a CD deck in it. I would rather the factory due to the less likely hood of someone braking into the car to steal my CD.

Your not going to believe this.....or maybe you will. These cost anywhere from $150-$300!!!!!! Even Ebay with the exchange is still around $150 + shipping!!!! Does anyone know of somewhere really cheap to get this? Thanks.
