Transmission fluid leak?

What do you guys make of this?? It's around the stock fittings, not the ones to/from the trans cooler.

lol that crack in the cement theres some stuff growin in it. Was just showin all the fluid on the plastic piece, there isnt actually anything dripping from it

Oh, I see, I thought it was green, so I was getting confused(and very worried that your car had a horrible leak because that would be alot of fluid). I dont know much about those tranny lines, if i would have saw that I wouldnt have even know those were for the tranny probably, so i dont know what to tell you

Those are the lines to/from the stock cooler

Looks like it's leaking from the crimp. Just keep the level up until you can get the lines replaced.

....No dipstick, that seems like it would be hard to keep the level up if you cant figure out the level...

Why did the engineers leave the dipstick off? What were they thinking? Is there any way to check the level or the condition of the tranny fluid?

To check the level and condition (word has it that...) you have to use a hoist(and have it level too), and pull a "check bolt"(or test bolt or something) out of the transmission while its above you and see if its at the level of the bolt. I really dont know the details of doing this but I think that this would be a fun way to get hot tranny oil all over you if someone had added too much at one time or another. I guess to fill it, you are supposed to fill it until it comes out the hole and put the bolt back on.

Yea, to flush tranny fluid you take the bolt out, let it all drain out, turn the car on and keep it in park, and fill the trans till more comes out of the hole.

^^^^ Uhhh, I wouldn't be starting a car without tranny fluid in it, because that would be bad!

hows it gonna hurt the tranny if its in park genious. no gears moving.

The tranny fluid pump maybe? Think about it though, if that fluid can come out, then it must be pumping around, and wouldnt your torque converter still be spinning, i'd hate to see that thing cease up as well

oh yea, I've actually done it, and here's a little snippit from GM's service manual


1Start the engine and allow the engine to idle until the transmission fluid temperature has reached the value specified.
Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever through the gear ranges, pausing a few seconds in each range. Return the shift lever to the PARK range.
Raise the vehicle on a hoist. The vehicle must be level, with the engine running and the shift lever in the PARK range. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

Caution
The engine must be running when the transmission fluid fill plug is removed, or excessive fluid loss will occur. Transmission fluid may be hot. Since the actual fluid level is unknown, stand clear when removing the fill plug. Have a container ready to capture any lost fluid. Do not turn the engine off with the fill plug removed, as you can be injured by hot transmission fluid being expelled out of the oil fill opening.


Remove the transmission oil level control plug (65). See drawing above.

Important
The transmission fluid may darken with normal use and does not always indicate contamination or oxidation.


Check the fluid color. If necessary, use a small screwdriver as a dipstick.
Is the fluid color clear red or light brown with no burnt odor?

Yes, but that doesnt say, drain all your fluid and have your engine running, those are instructions to check the fluid level.

no no, after all the fluid is drained you turn the car on as your filling it back up. when its full it will come out of that plug hole you removed.

yeah looks like the crimps are bad, and yeah no dipstick is dumb :/ I have to get the fluid changed anyways so I'll get this fixed at the same time.

I haven't tried but what can you see if you open the cap thats next to the battery. I thought that was the tranny access cap.

Yeah, seth, they're going to laugh if you ask to have it fixed under warranty because of your aftermarket cooler. Clearly we know its strictly coincidental, but they don't care.

I would suggest just getting new OEM fittings and hose and have the shop crimp it for you or whatever. Just replace the whole thing and you'll save yourself $50+ from the service dept.
