Okay, ill tell this story in as few words as possible, in April I bought my 2002 Grand Am SE, and today I obtained a warrenty/build information sheet that dealers can look up on cars. I drove off the lot at 25315 miles and now im at about 32200 miles. Well, I dont know what im supposed to think about the warrenty sheet that I got today, but it says that just 29 miles before I bought the car(and at least 15 of those miles were from my own test driving of the car), the lower intake manifold gasket was replaced. They never told me this, and I suppose for reasons of being able to sell the car easily they decided not to, but isnt there usually supposed to be a oil swap about 300 miles after an intake manifold gasket is replaced?? Well anyway, they did replace the oil and coolant, but they didnt say anything about coming back for an oil change or of the gasket replacement...

Anyways, my question is, could that have done any damage for me to have replaced my oil at the normal 3000 mile mark, and was I ever supposed to flush my coolant after it was flushed for the gasket replacement? I decided to do the 3000 mile oil change because I wasnt sure what type of oil or the true mileage of the last oil change, although they put a sticker on the car saying to come back at 28286(the same mileage as posted for the warrenty gasket plus 3000 miles) Also, since my gasket went at 25286(seems really early to me), is it very likely that the next one will go out again in about 25000 more miles??

Well anyway, Im going to paste in the warrenty information that I have, it seems my GA has had quite alot less warrenty repairs as most other people seem to have(its been a reliable GA). Although I will be bringing it in for a few things, such as my brakes, which I need to push the peddle about 1/2 way down before they grab hard enough for any decent stopping power(im thinking they might need to get bled, not sure though), the belt which has been bad since ive bought the car(also on the warrenty right before i bought it, but im not sure why that hasnt fixed it, arrgh), ill see if they will warrenty a blown speaker, the random blinker click out of nowhere that im getting, and probably something else that I cant think of right now, but mostly just annoyances.

Also, I am the second owner, and yes, I did buy a car that used to be a Hertz rental(bad decision? I dunno, I got a really good price on it compared to what everyone else around here wanted wanted) Im not sure why they brought this car all the way from Oklahoma over here to sell it though. Ohh, and what sort of thing was the "01/22/2002 483915 # N6610 - WIRING AND/OR CONNECTOR - ENGINE WIRING - REPAIR OR REPLAC 5904 miles " can anyone look that up?

In one sense, you should be very happy that they replaced the gasket. As you can read in multiple threads, the old gasket style was not durable enough and is the subject of many issues with those of us that have it or have had it. It can destroy an engine if it leaks and goes undetected too long.

The only issue I can think of, is that they did not do this as a preventative measure...that they did it because they noticed it had this leaking problem. If that was the case, who knows how much damage was done, if any at all. Hopefully for you, it all works out ok.

I don't think there have been many complaints about the new, strong gasket...so you should not have to replace it at another 25K...or possibly for the life of the car.

You believe a relatively new car (less than 2 years old) with low mileage that retails for about 22 grand US brand new with those types of problems and that many problems to be reliable? Putting such a large investment into an object shouldn't be ridden with so many problems and issues, that's the problem with GM vehicles.

3 major problems in the first 30k or so miles is alot to you?? You should see how many problems other people have on these forums, its not that bad, besides a belt tensioner and wiring arent major problems, and the gaskets are a very common problem with our GA's so I consider myself lucky, ive seen lists with dozens of items just under the warrenty period!! I dont believe in buying a brand new car, its never a good idea to do that, and its something I will never do, thats why i got my car used instead of new, i saved half the original retail cost of a new GA by doing that. Im still wondering what kind of wiring that was though

I have a question, how can I obtain that info ?
Do I goto the dealer that sold me the car and see what's been warenteed, I'd really like to know.
I bought my 02 GT with 36200 KMS on it, and the windshield has been replaced (non-warenty, damn idiots) so it's no longer covered by the factory warenty (but the dealership that sold me said everything is still warenteed).
This will be fun on monday :)

I dont know how to get it, I had a really good friend that "snuck" it to me, he works for a dealer and was able to get it, I really doubt that you could walk into a dealer and just get it though.

PM me your VIN number and I can look all of the warranty work that has been done on your car.

Thanks!

Mine was leaking oil - not coolant from the gaskets. I had them changed at about 35K, and nobody said anything to me about chaning the oil shortly after.

Unless there was a big time amount of coolant entering the oil, I don't see the need for the quick oil change. Your dealer might have done a engine flush too - which would have negated the benefits of doing the quick change.
