Its falling apart. I bought a 2000 GT1 and now its just having problem after problem. I recently got my tranmission fully checked over with new gaskets and fluids and such. Then my starter when south taking my pressure plate with it. Now my power steering hose and sprung a leak along with anti-freeze leaking all over the engine. Anyone have any idea what i should do????
The hose is costing me around 350 (can) to fix and the anti-freeze (same think as coolant) is costing 6 hours of labour and around 600 to fix. This just after i spent 1700 to fix the pressure plate and starter. Im starting to hate my car.....

How long ago did your warrenty run out?

01-12-2004, 07:48 PM
i bought an extended drivetrain warranty which i think covers the intake manifold (if that really ends up being the problem)
we'll see

for sure...never gunna buy a GM again
whats the word on Chysler 300M and Concorde?

Don't sell it. It sounds like your fixing all of the problems with the vehicle. I'm sure inturn it will turn out to be a reliable vehicle soon.

One of my friends has one, just a ****ty car. (2001 300M)

Pain in the ass to align (tie rod location) and pop the hood and look for the battery. Guess where it is...

He's had a lot of problems with the transmission but other than that, the interior is nice. Don't really like the styling but I guess that's going to be different from person to person.

so you are going from one shoddy american product to another shoddy american product? How much sense does that make?

DC has a worse Track record then GM does.

I'm still waiting to drive a Chyrsler with a decent automatic transmission. I have a feeling I'll be waiting a while... On the other hand, I'd love to own a GM that doesn't rattle when its cold. You can't win, you can just choose what problems your willing to deal with.

01-13-2004, 06:52 AM
Not sure about DC being worse... Ihad an Avenger for almost 60K miles without a single problem ... the only work that was done on it was a single brake change (resurface and new pads).

My GM?

2 Window Regulators
Intake Gasket Leak
Brakes (no comment needed)
Misc Small things (seat latches, trim coming off, etc)

Without warrantee coverage, that's probably pushing $1500 easy. I just hope all the problems are worked out because my warrantee is expired.

I have owned 4 cars (including a beater), and this GrandAm in 37K miles has had more problems than all of them combined (about 115K miles) - even the 16 year old Corolla I owned for about a year and a half.

yeah, i am thinking my GA GT is a pile too. i drive the car easy and keep up on the maintenance. i just had a coolant problem the other day. it turned out to be my waterpump. the tranny isn't shifting like it should on the 1-2 shift either.

i don't think i would be buying a DC car either. i will keep my GT because my dad bought it and not myself. if i was spending my money i would probally not have one. i would have went with a honda or something similar. the style may not be quite as sharp, but the quality is a total different story.

# of GM cars owned by family: 5. The first was stolen (1990 GA, nothing special), the second (1992 GA SE) was traded in on a Neon (more on that later), the third (1993 Beretta GT) was totalled by me, the fourth (kickin 99 GA GT) was totalled by me (my car) and my parents have a 2001 GA GT1.
# of problems: ONE, the fuel pump started to go at around 76,000 miles on my Beretta. Although, recently my parents car fried the foglight relay because SOMEONE forgot to shut the windows the whole way beofre they washed it.

# of Dodges owned: 2. Our 1995 Neon was sold after about a yeare because it was in the shop more than on the road. From bad gauges, bad steering pumps, AC working when it wanted to, and just about every other problem you can think of it had. Our other Dodge was a 1995 Intrepid. The thing at transmissions like I eat hotwings. And no one could seem to figure out why the AC wouldn't work.

Yeah, you go buy something from DC. I'll stick to my "unreliable" GMs.

01-13-2004, 08:47 AM
I'll second ZakkWylde470... I'll be sticking with my GM's as well! I've had two buick century's before I had my GA, my first one, 1990, had 196,000 miles on it when I sold it, still running beautifully. I only had that one the first year I was driving. The second one I bought an '89 that had 105,000 on it when I got it, and I drove it for 2 years back and forth 100 miles a day to school, and every night delivering pizza's for over a year. Cars got 190,000 miles on it now, and its still going strong... I finally gave it to my sister. Both had 90 degreee 3.3's and 3 speed trannys. They were both quick too, low low 16's in the quarter, even with all the miles. So I can't really say GM's have been bad to me, and I will always always swear by that 3 speed tranny. I towed so many different things with my 89 century. Car's, trucks, boats, trailers... and the tranny is still working fine! Now if I could just get the headliner to stay up without tacks...

01-13-2004, 09:31 AM
'96 GA SE with 99K miles, never service
the tranny at all, and the thing has this
really nice 1-2 shift. Everyone thinks we
have a shift kit installed. :)

The ABS sensors have been unplugged,
since the dealer has been unable to fix
them twice. The power window motors
got replaced (but only one was bad).

Otherwise, that has been the only items
wrong with my wife's '96 GA SE so far...

01-13-2004, 08:56 PM
I've had my 99'' GA for about 6 months. Brakes, some kind of crazy exhaust noise problem, window regulator, fog lamp went out, and now my keyless entry has stopped working and i just bought a new battery about 4 months ago. Yes i agree, P.O.S.

01-13-2004, 09:15 PM
Wow, it's really stange to see people having so many strange problems with their General Motors...GMs have been nothing but extremely reliable for my family and I.
Imports on the other hand...

01-14-2004, 06:37 AM
Shogun... Did you buy your car from Leggatt? I swear that dealership is cursed... lol I know a few people who bought cars (other than GAs) from there and had problems. Plus, I've never been treated worse at a dealership than there. I think you may have just picked a car built on a Monday. :p Knock on wood, I've had very few problems with my GA since I bought it almost two years ago.

01-14-2004, 06:54 AM
My sister has a Grand Am, my wife has a
Grand Am, and my parents have had two.
(None of them are the latest generation.)
They have all been (still are) solid cars.

Maybe quality on late models has dipped?

My moms got a Concorde and will never buy another one again.

01-14-2004, 09:39 AM
...and I have a Gm and will never buy one again. I really have to laugh at the posts that put down Chrysler. For starters the 300M is an amazing car. Its ride blows away a GA hands down. But the fact is that it's not in the same class and it costs more. This is my 4th GM car and I never seem to learn. I was one of the guys using the term "ricer" and talking negative about Honda. How can one possibly talk bad about a car that is built so much better than the American counterpart. Why has GM changed thier platforms? For the simple fact that they have lost a huge market share for the simple reason that they do not have any quality control. I have had so many problems with my GA that it is sure to be my last. How can one justify buying a loaded GT1 with the SC/T package for $31,000 (Can) when the value 2-3 years later is less thana quater of the purchase price. Look at the resale value of a Honda. The one thing that really bugs me with the GA is the gaskets. Many problems occur because of simple wear but the gasket issue is beyond that. I am on my 4th set of gaskets, the fact of the matter is if you have a 3.4 your gaskets will breakdown...

01-14-2004, 09:48 AM
My 99 GA is still on her first set of gaskets... 61k miles and fingers still crossed. The depreciation of a GA is pretty sad... my SE2's book was 10k when I bought it with 43k miles... now its down to like 6500 with 60k miles... BOO! As for putting down Chyslers... find me a FWD tranny from a Chysler that holds up better than a GM FWD tranny. Fords are the same way... they still don't make a tranny for a FWD car that is real nice.

01-14-2004, 02:34 PM
I've owned 4 GM cars since I've been driving, A 90 Lumina (3.1), an 86 Camaro (2.8), a 99 GASE (3.4) and a 00 GAGT (3.4). I'm really rough on cars and I;ve had no tranny problems yet. My Lumina ran like brand new till I hit someone. I had it till 2002. The only reason I don't have it now cuz I killed the engine by running a bad radiator, I over heated the engine.(accident). I've beat on the camaro tranny so much and it still works great. I got it stuck in the snow and kept slamming it in reverse and drive. Still great!

Well now yes my 99SE has given me a few problems, the intake gasket, 1&2 fanspeeds on AC, power seat, Hazard switch (blinker problem), now needs it's second alternator. Nothing to major with the exeption of the gasket and maybe alternator. I drive that thing all over the highway at 100+ speeds all teh time. I've had it off-road (on 18's), in the air, i live in new england and it's still runs strong with just about 80K on it (once i replace the alternator)

Yeah I noticed GA's have more electrical problems than mechanical.

No I just bought a 00 GAGT with 45K on it and so far the 1&2 fan speeds don't work, hazard switch already replaced. And it's running great so far.

My family also has a 2000 Impala, no problems.

A 92 Silverado Blazer, just an ABS problem.

My dad had a 2002 GMC 2500 pickup, no problems. (traded for a F-250, bad deal, All GM trucks before that, except an 82 RAM which ate trannys every month) Oh and he got more for the GMC than what he paid for it!

01-16-2004, 01:52 PM
So over all, it sounds like the main problems are:

Power window's.
Manifold Gaskets.

I have replaced all the above on my wifes GA. : (
