My car is getting up there in miles, and I am quickly loosing the top gear on my transmission. How hard would it be to swap in a new engine and transmission (replacing what i have, not upgrading to something different) assuming I could find the engine and tranny???? Anyone know how many labor hours GM lists for each procedure (trying to figure out what a dealership would charge). THANKS

just changed my engine, u gonna do it urself? or just pay someone to do it and pay for the parts?

if u decide to do it urself it is very hard, and time consuming, but u will save a lot of money.

if u decide to have a dealership do it then it will run ya about $3000. that includes labor, parts, and new engine

i have had 2 engine changes so far, one was done by the dealership and it came out to be $2800, the other i did myself, and it was a pain in the balls

I can find the labor hours for you... what engine? what transmission? I assume that this for the 99 Grand Am?

Thanks!

I know the dealer will eventually need to change the transmission, any experience with that?

Is it both the motor and tranny that need to be replaced? I've seen 2.4's run for LONG time... maybe just drop the tranny and put in a new one... might be easier that doing both. I know some trannies you can take out on a lift, instead of pulling it with the motor... not sure on a GA.

The tranny is what I really need, I was just inquiring as to both. Know the general process to remove it anyone?
