View Full Version : Steering rack adjustment

Does anyone know how to adjust the pre-load on the steering rack? My car has a shimmie but not from the tires. I think it may be coming from the steering rack. The car dealership I work at had problems with shimmies and they found the steering rack pre-load had to be tightened just a touch. It shakes a lot at around 45-60mph. Thanks....

it might not be tires but a bent rim

It is not a bent rim - these rims have been force matched and balanced over and over. thanks though.

so where mine. the dealership never looked at the possibilty of a bent rim. i took it to the place where i got my tires and they told me my rim was bent. 1500 dollars later (aftermarket rims) vibes are gone. I even made them mount a new set of tires so i would be sure it wasnt the tires.

I worked at a Porsche dealership and know I do not have a bent wheel this is not about the wheels! I want to know if I could adjust the steering rack tension!

My steering rack was replaced at 11,000 miles. I had a bad knocking when the steering wheel was being wiggled back and forth.
