Newbie here, my wife and I recently purchased a black '01 GrandAm GT sedan and so far really enjoying it. It's a great car and I've always been a Pontiac fan anyway.

Anyhoo, just thought I'd pop in and say hi since I (we)'re new to the forum.

So, since this car has 2 months left on the factory warranty, where is the first place to look for this coolant leak. Does it leak internally (into the intake or oil) or just around the manifold base/head mating area? I'd like to make 100% sure it's at least not leaking before the warranty runs out.

You should be able to tell if it's leaking when you put on the vent fan. You will smell something sweet. I'm getting that smell right now on certain days and i'm getting worried.

Welcome!!!

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Vintalage, wouldn't that more likely be the heater core if you can smell it through the vents? Or does the coolant burn off when it leaks and then come into the car?

My LIM leaked and I never noticed the sweet smell. My first clue was the low coolant light coming on.

From my understanding, it burns off. With my last car (alero), the coolant leaked into the oil. I smelled the same sweet smell that i'm getting with the grand am. So I know the signs.

I noticed mine was leaking by the coolant around the base of the manifold.
