the other night i was driving to town when i noticed that my floor mat underneith my feet was scrunched up to the pedals. it usually does this but doesnt bother me. well this time i just grabbed it and pulled it back...but it was wrinkled from being in the same position for a couple of months. so i picked it up and just layed it down on the passenger side floor. i then noticed that when i would get on the gas...that there was more of an acceleration. its like the gas pedal had more room to push down. it felt really wierd. lets just say i wasted half a tank of gas that night just playing around with the gas pedal. does anyone know of any different floor mats that i could lay down so they wouldnt slide under the pedals? or should i just hop over to autozone and get some cheap ones?

I remember watching a show once that promised to show how to get 15% more power from your small block Chevy. Owning a Trans Am I watched the entire show. At the end they told us to move our floor mats. I was so mad; I wasted an hour to have somebody tell me that.

I would just head to your local parts store and get different mats.

You could cut a hole out of the floorboard so you can push the gas pedal even farther...lol

Lol, yeah, I have really crappy ones I picked up at a fleet shop for $10, they suck and they move all over the place, but they never go under the gas pedal so im happy!! And my cars go faster than all the rest of the GA's with different floor mats :-P j/k

Any color will do...but EVERYONE knows yellow will net you the most overall power.

Go to PFYC and order some custom made Grand Am floor mats for like $70.... they fit PERFECT, match your carpet color exactly, and they come with these nifty things to make your floormat lock into the floor (lol can't really explain it...but take my word for it, since I've had these mats(for like 6 months), they haven't moved a cm.)

PS. For like 10 extra bucks you can get a grand am logo embroidered onto them in any color.

Or try the metal ones...I've had some for about 7 months and if they are good quality, they don't cut up the carpet. Yay!

the title of this thread almost made me p!ss myself

i didnt make this to say that i actually gained power...i was telling everybody this cuz i could have been losing some speed cuz i couldnt press the pedal all the way down. i cant believe people actually think i gained power by removing the floor mats. im not that stupid

i didnt take any of that serious. how can ya? anyone can tell you that if the floormats are all crumbled up in front of the gas pedal, of course u wont be able to accelerate as good. its like trying to run and push a refrigerator at the same time. your not gonna run as fast compared to it not being pushed.

welcome to the site :newbie:

I have the rubber gm floor mats with the "Grand Am" logo on'em and I swear by them. They're good quality rubber and pretty much can handle anything you get on'em.

I posted about this recently too. My floor mat was too thick and it was blocking my pedal from hitting the floor. I kept flooring my car all night and I was like wtf until I figured it. In the manual it says if your above 40mph you have to push the pedal all the way to floor to get your car to go into the passing gear too.
