View Full Version : Factory Rims Problem?

Ok I am just soo tired of these freaking junk rims, so I am just wondering if we can have everyone post how many factory rims they have had to replace. I am on #3. I am just trying to see if we can get a good list going here.

Why are you having to replace them? I have had 4 GAGT's and never had a problem with any of them. I do go out every week and spend an hour or two with them to keep them clean. I looked at one of them the other day and saw a tiny chip in the chrome, that I may inquire about, but that would be the very first problem that I have ever had with them. I love how they look on the car.

What's happening to them? Cracks, bad rashes, what?

Sounds like your driving habits to me (no offense or anything).
I haven't heard of anyone having problems with the rims.

I am back tony

No this F'in potholes have bent three rims. I work at a Tire shop and tons of ppl have had this problem, I always feel bad telling them cause I know the rims cost 566 bucks a piece. the inside lip dents in and cracks and since it is aluminum you are f'ed cause you can't bend it back

You mean like this:

This happened to me from a HUGE pothole.. but hey.. it's the reason I got rims so I guess it wasn't so bad.

Wow, that would suck. But it is a great excuse to 'have to get rims, shrug'

that has happened to me three times. Same freaking thing all three times.

The wierd thing is that it still held air. I didn't even notice the crack until I was changing my brakes and had the wheel off.

YOu guys need a good wheel repair shop. Any aftermarket aluminum rims with low profile tires are at the mercy of potholes. 17 & 18" rims with lower porfile tires are even worse.

We have a guy here that repairs bent wheels like this with a press and heat. Costs around $100 CDN per wheel and they always balance out perfectly. He can even fix cracked wheels.

I blame the drivers, not the wheels. If its that big of a problem, go buy a set of 15" rims and 215/60/15's and if its still a problem. 205/70/15's will fit.

03-10-2004, 04:26 PM
Well, for what it's worth, I blame the potholes :p

I blame pothols to. Here in michigan they can get pretty big and all it takes is a dark night and no street lights and BAMM right into the pothole. You can be a professional driver and still hit potholes here in michigan.

Well, Newfoundland is by far the KING of potholes, especially in the spring!!! I guess we've just become so acustomed to to avoiding them, its like a second nature now!!! You have to be consious of them all the damn time.

here in NYC, if you hit a pothole, and damage occurs to your car, if you can prove you werent speeding or anything, they will usually fix the damage, not sure if it works with aftermarket stuff, but my cuz hit a pothole in the city, blew his tire and cracked the wheel on his Acura, and the city sent him a check for it.

03-28-2004, 08:37 PM
that aint a pothole, lol thats a small bumb in the road here, here a car can basically fit inside the hole for the city to decide to "TRY" to fix it.,
