The past several days of driving my car got scary a few times. I have noticed lately that the steering was feeling weird then I would be going around a curve (at normal highway speeds) and right in the middle the steering wheel went completely "limp" for a second then returned to normal. It did this twice over the next day, and I was almost too scared to drive it. Took it in to the dealer today and they found that the speed sensor on the steering was bad. Apparently it was sending intermittent signals causing it to give full power assist off and on. Now as we all know the GAs have the speed sensitive steering (makes it tighter at higher speeds and with more power assist and lower speeds). You can imagine what it feels like when you get full power assist suddenly while going around a curve at 55-60 mph. Not a good feeling!! Anyway, in case anyone else gets this problem, this is whats wrong with it.
