if its cheap I'd buy it... if its alot... say.. $30... I personally wouldnt spend money on it. Half of mine broke off a week after i bought the car and its been that way for the past 2 years, no problems.

how much did it cost?

03-29-2004, 02:26 PM
the passanger side was 20 something, and the center was 15 if I remember corretly

its actually a radiator support (dont ask)

I've also read that it's a radiator support, and I don't doubt it; this is just a curious question. What about the millions of grand ams I see driving that have ripped those pieces off? Are their radiators a few inches lower than most because of this?

i think they get ripped off but structurally the top portion of it is still in tact if that makes sense? im missing mine and my radiator is in place

A Parking block in a mall parking lot took mine off..... :'( What a horrible sound that was.

yeah everybodys is cracked, those black things that run the width of the car behidn the front bumper? yea, my mom cracked her alero's last winter, mines split but still all there and almost every one ive seen is cracked too, no big deal im guessin

Actually, it IS the radiator support (the center portion... the left and right sides are part of the splash shields). I just changed one over on a 2000 SE 2 weeks ago and I couldn't believe that its the radiator support. Even my boss who's been fixing cars for like 20 years couldn't believe it. Your radiator & condensor are still hooked up by the hoses and a couple of bolts on the top part, but I wouldn't recommend driving around too long without it.

no one b elieves me when i say its radiator support

I replaced mine a few months back......

and yes, it is the radiator support, it is a bitch putting it on by yourself.

got it for 50$ from the pontiac dealer this morning, they had one in stock...

03-31-2004, 10:40 AM
maybe thats why my radiator is scraping the ground...

03-31-2004, 01:20 PM
I replaced mine last summer. I had know idea it supported the radiator until It dropped two inches from the ground. The black bar is the support and the flimsy black piece is just attached to it.
It's a two man job because someone needs to hold the radiator while the other replaces the bar.

Uhh I have cut the black flap off and my radiator is perfectly fine. I have had it off for about a year now and it is perfect.

I scraped it on the driveway each time I went off of it, even at an angle so when it is ripped up I just cut it off. I think it looks like shizer anyway!!

Yeah...just wait until your rad falls out on the ground!!!! It will happen sooner or later!!!

Kepp it armorall'd and it looks OK.

how many/what size bolts hold it up? the grounds been wet, haven't been under it to look, the dealer gave me no nuts/bolts to put it up with...

When I replaced mine the bolts were still there, IIRC there are two bolts on each end and maybe one in the middle. Not sure of the size. I think there are a couple wing nuts also.

mine are all probably there too, im assuming just the black guard was severed off since my radiator isn't flapping around

04-05-2004, 07:57 AM
Just the flap was gone on mine the support was still there.
Make sure you have someone to help you when you replace it. Don't want the radiator to fall on top of you like it did me. lol

yeah, i need a compitent friend to hold it up, im probably gonna do it while its on the lift getting oil changed if they dont mind me doing it... or ask my cousin to do it while changing the oil... do they have an air tool extension for wingnuts? i love air tools

Just take a dremel tool to it and shortin it so the average person cant see it. Mine is cracked and missin a piece. As soon as it is warm enough im cuttin the rest of it off with my dremel.
