So today I finalized my purchase of the RSM supercharger kit!! Man, I can't wait to have it installed... unfortunately that's not going to happen for another 39 days though...

I decided to go with the "loud" blower, and am having the shift points raised a bit and the governor taken off (like I'll need that  )... All in all, it should be a good time, and I'll be sure to take some pics of the RSM facility.

Damn, looks like the East Coast will have some of the fastest GA's in the country :D

What, make a 2.4 fast? j/k :p

yeh... making a 2.4 compete with you guys isn't that hard.. when all's said and done i'll give you all a dyno at 5lbs in mid-November... and me being a spoolin 2.4 in the west coast..

damn i'm seriously a minority huh?

On gapower, the 3.1 vs 2.4 debate was rediculous. I think the 3.4 goes a little over top of the 2.4. I'll give you a run whenever pic releases the 3.4 turbo :)

i think im gonna be going 2.4 s/c because my cars auto and i can't control the rpm.. turbo would be a waste, plus that off the line kick from the sc i would never get tired of... i'm just waiting for spy to get his stuff together so i know what im aiming for as the money stacks up :)... so far it looks like sc & a 50-75 shot of nitrous to be used a handful of times as to not hurt the engine but to throw down some impressive times for the 2.4 :)

hey, at least you got people trying to mod their grand ams! i got 2 other guys from omaha and that's it that i know of! it sux, i'm right in the middle of everything, yet we got nothing...

man i wish i could find i nice domestic car club around here! all i got is a "toxic rides" group which is full of gangsta rides and an untouchables racing that has a bunch of probes and a 95 silverado ext cab, long bed!! it really does suck around here, but in a way, that's why i love my grand am! cuz it's unique and i can't just run to the store and drop a few grand and be unique in a day or two!

dont worry spy, you are not alone in the world of 2.4L forced induction. i wanna get some dyno results up and maybe a quarter mile for the 3.4L boost bros. just 1 week left!

hey pac... just make sure of one thing w/ the RSM charger.... I urge ya to go dyno tune it so it's getting the right amount of fuel it needs to kick major ass.

On j-body the RSM charged guys have been telling about that.. Gotta get the dyno time to tune the air/fuel and such. S'all about the fuel system w/ all these setups.. :)

S-AFC man S-AFC... that's what it's all about..

ever heard of building boost off the line? Automatics are great for launching under boost.

I always thought that was necessary for turbos to "spool up" where as an SC is a direct relation to belt speed...

yeah, but the torque converter will allow the turbo to build some boost (brake torque it!). Let of the gas... and BAM! you're off

Yay for boost launching and blowing your tires off ;)
Roommate did that in his old tbird SC and he friggin baked his tires like there was no tomorrow. Nothing like 9psi off the line :D

Doug

Thats what DRs are for :) You just need to learn how to launch under boost.

basically, the shop im taking it to be installed is going to tune it for me. they said it will take about a week to install the charger and about 10 hrs of work. they quoted me for $650 install. which right now i dont think is too bad at all, considering i dont have to do a lot of the work at all.

Doug

I though RSM gives you a reprogram that basically thier form of "tuning" ?

SpyhunteR
10-22-2002, 08:46 PM
the reprogram is just part of the fun. RSM didn't do that much work on the reprogram... :-\

Doug

I know some of the j-bodies have had problems with the RSM program, but it should be enough of a difference to run the kit safely.

SpyhunteR
10-23-2002, 02:17 AM
to run safely yes... to run it to it's full potential? i personally don't think so.

As far as the 3.4 setup is concerned, there's almost no change to the stock fuel tables in the RSM program. They said that it wasn't necessary on the stock system, unless you start running crazy boost or N2O...

What would be crazy boost? 10lbs? Going much smaller with a pulley on the Magnacharger seems to lean her out very nicely.:(

where can you get the smaller pullies at? i know that spaz had one in his car and ran i think it was 2 more lbs or something like that. how much are they? is it possible to get one for the RSM kit?

crazy boost would be a 2.7" pulley or smaller on the RSM kit, it's geared differently (I think, I'll probably be corrected) but that equates to about 10+ lbs... the stock fuel management just was NOT meant for that...

Pulleys are a dime a dozen... well, if you search well.

how would the super charger that gm makes stand up againt the one rsm makes?

Pulleys are a dime a dozen... well, if you search well. I have a 2.5" pulley. Right now I'm doing 7.5-8.0 psi at max boost. With the cooler weather now,I'll probably do about 9.0-9.5 psi of boost.:)

where can i get one? i might wanna buy it now and have the shop thats doing the install just put it on right away. the charger is supposed to be here within a week from now. if i run a 2.5", will it be safe?

edit: to answer the question about the GM charger vs the RSM charger, the RSM wins in hp i know for sure. GM's= 40 hp and 50-60 torque i believe. RSM= 65 hp and i forget how much torque, but RSM claims that on a stock 2.4L engine, the car should be around 230 hp.

Hey Rob...just out of curiosity, is RSM removing your governor and raising your shift points? I called them today to answer some of my questions because hopefully I will be ordering the kit within the next month, and the guy I spoke with told me that they would not remove the speed governor or raise the shift points....which kinda bothers me especially since they recently raised the price. Just wondering....

yeah, i think ASE is working on a chip right now for the supercharged 3.4L's, i could be mistaken though.
