View Full Version : Put in LED's....Blinker going crazy!

I bought a set of 194 and 3157 LED's for my headlights. I installed them and they work fine. I also put in a blue 194 in the side blinker causes i put a black overlay on it and the orange 194 was too bright. Anyway, everytime i signal now, the blinker goes twice as fast......the same speed it goes when a bulb burns out. What did i do wrong? :knob:

thats because your suppossed to put a 6 ohm resistor inline on the 3157 bulbs.

wonder what would happen if i just left it like that?

It'll keep blinking fast.

Actually the load resistor is placed in parallel with the bulb, not in series - but I know I am just being picky.
Reason for this is that per Feberal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) the vehicle is supposed to indicate to the driver when a turn signal bulb is not working. In modern vehicles this is done by having the remaining bulbs flash at double-rate. Older vehicles with bi-metal thermal turn signal flashers just went solid ON.
