The Viper engine in a Ram! I would love to have that truck, although I'm not a fan of Dodge, atleast they are moving in the right direction, and I think I'm turning with em... :)

Static, u were right. It won't be as expensive as I thought, it should be around $40 g's!!! :eek: Well, that was their projected price, it will prolly be more like $45 g's, but still. Boy, GM better slap a supercharger on the Silverado SS midyear if they wanna play with the big boys, but if it does get a supercharger, forgeet about the Lightning, and the Dodge prolly won't have a chance either.

Just what we need...another impractical high-powered hunk of steel on wheels. As if pickups don't already get lousy gas mileage...wtf :rolleyes:

Well, I'd say they are practical because so many Americans have pickups and the market for selling performance versions of them is huge. As u can see, we wouldn't mind having these babies at all.

I have seen that RAM out and about around these parts (I live 10 mins from Daimler Chrysler headquarters)

Never in my life have I see a full size truck take off that fast. From the numbers that come from a friend of mine who is a special projects engineer. That RAM will do a standing 1/4 mile in 12 seconds flat. The gearing is set up a little bit different from what the Viper is of course. Also, with a few mods available right from Mopar performance to the tune of about 2 grand you can have that truck running 10's all day.

Sorry, maybe I'm just bitter from being rear-ended last week by a pickup. But honestly, a Viper motor in a Ram pickup??? It's just plain overkill and as absurd as the new Porsche Cayanne SUV. :rolleyes: :nono:

Well I dunno about running 10's cuz there is a HUGE difference between high 12's (the SRT-10 RAM is actually supposed to run 12.9, not 12 flat) and 10's. Maybe a supercharger or turbo could do it, but ur talkin' a lot more than 2000 bux for those parts and they prolly won't be Mopar.

I gotta agree with VTEC, if I remember right, Vipers only run like low-mid 12's so WTF would Dodge make a car that is Cheaper, Faster, and has the same engine as the Viper...? And also about getting it to run 10's, It would take some decent $$$$ - I just dont see that truck as being aerodynamicaly friendly :)

Well enjoy your fantasty world as 2005 Lightnings going to get the GT-40 Powerplant and its already lighter the current Lightning
weights 4760 Lbs vs 5000 Lbs average for Ram and price for the Ram is 50 grand and with only 2000 being made Dealers are going to do just like the Prowler which BTW only was to be 35 grand and most dealers wanted between 45 to 49 Grand for them
So guess what look at a price of around 65 maybe 70 grand for them I'll wait for the 05 lightning for 40 grand and with what I save put it back into the Lightning. And the power of the GT is 500 to 525 HP and 550 to 575 Ft Lbs Have not yet settled on specific out put. Rule 1 don't mess with SVT as they just up the stakes.

Alright, a few things here. First of all, is your period key broken?? Second, you should prolly clear out ur ideas on there before you submit them because that was kinda confusing to read. Also, the only thing I read about the new lightning is that it would have a twin supercharged 5.4L v8, not necessarily the GT40 V8, so I dunno about that. Either way it would be badass and around 500 hp.

But I would be worried about getting it to the ground. Many people claim the current lightning is one of the easiest vehicles to break loose in America (stock-as in burning rubber; some claim to lose a second off the rated 0-60 times because of it). I am almost positive that a supercharged Silverado SS will burn both of those pickups by quite a bit, as the AWD version now should keep it close to the lightning and with about 550 hp, it shouldn't have trouble moving by. They have already made the supercharger for it too, as it has the same drivetrain as the Escalade that has now been supercharged (aftermarket).

Also, if the Lightning does end up getting the GT40 engine, expect it to sell no less than the cost of the SRT-10 Ram, cuz both engines come from their supercars and will most likely be very limited in production ability, not to mention that both companies knock up their prices a lot for unique and in demand items.

Well I guess my Uncles Ford Reports are totally bogus and you can tell Ford they are liars. He worked for them and still has connections to the top. Price for a 2005 L will be around 40 grand
because they average 5000 Lightnings a year. And about breaking loose only if theres loose sand and grit on the road I drive a Lightning daily and yes the rear is light. You play gas smash and yes tire smoke to properly launch you feather pedal
then hammer it. And AWD=weight. lots about 800 lbs or more. Good for wet and heres where GM falls again price for an SS is $38,000. Lightning $33,000. SRT $50,000+ because thats whats going to happen when dealers get one of only 2000 made.
2001 Ford Cobra price $29,250 2003 S/C $35,500 only 6000 more
add that to Lightning and yes it equals $40,000. I know and seen what is in store for the Lightning the twin S/C set up is a possability for a later Gen. of the L just not 2005 Aston Martin would play a role in that. And JDM has a 2000 Lightning that runs
9's in the 1/4 mile. with only $10,000 in mods just to let you know what $40 Grand will get you.:)

Hey I never said there was anything wrong with lightnings or that your uncle is a liar or whatever. I was just saying that they could say any price they want right now, but it won't be the same in 2005, when it hits the showroom floor. Like how the SVT Cobra now is supposed to be 35,000 bux, but I see it for almost 39,000 bux easily. Yeah, it's prolly negotiable for a few grand, but why should they negotiate at all when some other guy is willing to buy it for that much?

The same thing would happen with the Lightning, and I guess it could be a GT40 engine since it is a 5.4L. If it is twin supercharged tho, I'd see the price at about 10 grand over what it is now, putting it at around $43,000 to $44,000. I would definately buy a Lightning over the SRT-10 Ram tho because pulley swaps give it easy power upgrades and the lightning still looks cooler. Something about the stance of it makes it look so menacing. And the whine of the supercharger is awesome.

Also, a 9 second lightning sounds very impressive. Is it on the internet anywhere so i could see it? I'm guessing he got gears, a pulley swap, Nitrous, maybe weight reduction, and maybe headers and exhaust (or is the SVT stuff good enough already?)

I was not yelling this is what I hate about Internet you can't know how the tone is. All I'm saying is I got inside stuff about how Ford going to be up to around next decade. But again all I was doing was saying what should be out. For 03 the Lightning gets bigger payload 1400 lbs over the puny 800lbs Sorry if it came out as like I was a certified D&ck.:newbie:

And the twin S/C V8 going to be based off the DB8 Aston Martin
4.9 liter V8 # 600HP and 800 Ft lbs of torque. If Ford would go that route.:thumbs: About the JDM go to SVTperformance.com

If you have to slap a supercharger on something just to have it compete with a Dodge Engine non-supercharged, it would be easy for Dodge to slap one on the Ram and really increase the power.

There are quite a few Dodge Vipers out there well over 1000 HP.


Last I heard, there was someone making a bolt on do it yourself Supercharger for the Viper... pushing 650-700 RWHP.

The current Vipers run mid 12's... with the right driver, you can get below 12 on a current stock Viper.

Add 50HP, 50TQ, take off some weight, better (wider) tires, better wind resistance.. that is the 2003 Viper. This Dodge will have the 500HP/500TQ Viper engine... not the 450HP engine currently being used.

I still haven't seen the 9 second lightning. A lot of em in the 11s and I would imagine some in the 10's but no 9's. I have seen 9 second Syclones however :)

I hate Lightning's. Every Lightning owner I have came across is a real JAG. They think those trucks are the fastest vehicle on the road, and I hate when they try to race the newer F-bodies.

I have this guy with a new lightning who lives near me and whenever he drives by my house with the WS6 and the GA sitting outside he revs his engine like a retard. I also have this neon who does the same thing except the neon looks and sounds better :eek:

I can't wait to catch that focker at a light with the WS-6 or the GAGT for that matter:D

No stock Viper runs sub 12s....

my old man gets "Truckin" magazine and i saw an article where this dude swaped a Viper engine into a PT cruiser. he got the engine out of a wrecked Viper and he modified the PT to accomidate the suspension and a viper tranny...
I also saw a PT with a 70 AAR cuda engine.

I care (a half breed GM/Dodge grrl) and I'm sure I know a MI guy who cares...
We have that 'zine at home- I remember reading it...
There is also a 300 or 500hp Neon (yikes to either one!)- no longer a Neon IMO- in a Mopar Now 'zine.
Gawd we have too many 'zines at home, I think we get abOOt 5 or 6 a month- all truck/car ones of course...
