Im wondering, how far can you go when the light comes on. Its almost even with the very first bar on the gauge. I know on my ranger it'll go further down past E before it starts chuggin.

I don't think letting it go that low can be too healthy for the engine

Its bad for the fuel pump... but i think you have 20 miles after the light comes on.. but dont quote me on that.

You can go to the very bottom of the line on my gauge (there may be slight differences between vehicles).

What do I know though, I've run out of gas while driving 4 or 5 times now. lol

how does one run out of gas while driving? i came close once, when i first got the car, but not since such and such a time has it ever come close

Light comes on w/ 13% of the gas tank remaining iirc.

My whip doesn't chime when the gas light comes on. I'm never looking at the gauges anyway (There's a speedometer in this beast?) so I don't see the light.

I've gone over 40 miles at highway speeds with my light on...

yeah, i've gone about 30-40 after the light on my way to MI for GAP..

in my honda though, it comes on when i have 3 gallons left, so i have pushed that to 63 miles.. and then it wouldn't start the next morning! :D

yeah the chiming doe shelp sometimes i'll get to the chime but im usually completely aware its about to chime... you should get a digital fuel gauge and put it somewhere you will look :)

ive gone a decent amount, i noticed on the highway when i was going to work all of the sudden the gauge shot up to full then empty and the car sorta hesitated for a minute im not sure if that had anything to do with me being low on gas or not then my traction control light came on, so i was like aight im done pull over to the gas station and fulled that bastard up.

I don't think my girlfriend will let me put it on her chest. I can't imagine the wiring.

the chime is so annoying, it never leaves you alone until you get to a gas station

Mine only chimes once when the low fuel light comes on. There is about two gallons left when the alarm sounds.

I get the chime and ligtht with about 2.5 to 3 gallons left... easy 60 miles. However, running so low on gas, you will pick up any crap in the bottom of the tank, and start plugging up your fuel filter, which will degrade perfromance and mileage.

Mine goes off when there are about two gallons left

Exactly! There is no good in seeing how far you can go until the car runs out of gas.

I've driven my car for 85 after the light came on. it went WAY BELOW E.

Theres tons of gas left after the empty mark. I take my car there every week. At E you're fine. If you can picture this, took at the width of the needle. At totally out, your needle will be below with a full needle width of space between the actual needle and the E mark.

Mine has only chugged once. I was too lazy to fill at even below E. I was at the Totally out mark doing 120 km/h on the highway. She bogged when I wanted to give it more gas. Just gassed slowely and it was fine.

On my car, it all depends on where the needle was set when the car was put together. I know that I ran out of gas once, and the needle was on the notch before the last one and it died. After replacing the guages with my new ones I changed the needle so when it's filled all the way up it's even with the top line, so now it is empty at the bottom line. Just be careful, cause I ran out of gas that first time within 4 miles of the "gas low" light coming on!!!

My light came on..35miles later the car shut off! But I was also driving like a bat out of hell and I kept turning the A/C on and off because I couldn't make up my mind. But I was able to coast to someones house and get some gas from them. Purtty sweet. Oh btw, the needle was on the E line. But I kept being able to start it he car back up and as long as I didn't make make any quick steering attempts, the car was fine.

That seems accurate. I ran out of gas a month ago and it was about 1/8 inch under the empty line.

And it took about 3 gallons to get it to fire back up. Luckily, there was a gas station around the corner from where I ran out, and they sold a 1 gallon tank. Took 3 trips before I could get started.

I believe you still have 3 gallons of fuel at the chime. Remember reading it in the owner's manual or something.

Hehe, just ask Badassgrandam how far you can go on and below E! Apparently he thinks driving across PA with no gas is cool. lol I'll pay for this one! But yeah, the light is just a slight warning apparently!

ECU activates the low fuel warning light/chime at 15% remaining fuel capacity on N-bodies.
It is important to note that GM now uses a standardized low fuel percentage of 8%. Barely half of what our cars have.

15%x14.3gallon=2.145 gallons gasoline

2.145 gallons x 24 average MPG= 51.48 miles range

I've stretched that to about 60 at GAP last year. Coasted into the gas station....

Once the gas light comes on in my car i get gas right away. It has ran out 2 times while going up hills with atleast a gallon left.

I've never run out of gas in my car(s), and I usually fill it up when the light comes on. The furthest I've gone after the light came on is probably 25 miles, but even then I still had over a gallon left in the tank when I filled it up.

I get gas whenever the gauge reaches the 1/4 mark. I ran out of gas on the way home from work a while back. I knew I was low on gas, but only had 5-6 miles to a gas station, but the warning light came on and the car cut out about 1/2 mile further along. AAA brought me a gallon of gas so I could get to the station, where I put 13 1/2 gallons in. In other words, I don't trust my gas gauge at all.

I've gone almost 100 kms with my gas light on. I think with the Canadian GAs there's 8 litres left in the tank when the light comes on. 53 l x 15% = 7.95... yeah so 8 is about right. All I know is when I went the 95 kms with the light on, it took me 52.5 litres to fill up the 53 litre tank. lol

thats funny, cuz i would have expected these kind of answers nd my old cars were fine way below the E, but i was driving my GT and about 5 minutes after the light came on, and plenty of time before the needle hit E, i ran outta gas, and the engine stalled :( no good, luckily it was in front of my house on the way past, talk about luck!
