3.5 is a bored out 3.4 (I believe). Just the way the cookie crumbles I guess.

And isnt the 3.4 just a bored out 3.1?

I call it a 3500 because it like the 3100 3400. When u look at the front of the motor it has the block as the 3x00

The Montana has larger exhaust manifolds. You could use them on a gt.

went to the pontiac website, and the 3400 in the Montana has 185hp with 210tq. if this is a result of the exhaust manifolds, im sure if ya wanna buy some, pontiac would charge alot for em huh. probably wouldnt be worth if with the gains you'd get im sure. anyone ever try it?

It's called junkyard hunt ;) or ebay. Buying from the dealer would probably suck, and going for TOG would prob be better for price/performance.

IF you can find them, I would say for it (if the price is right).

why's GMs 3.5L putting out 200hp in the new Malibu and my Mom's 2000 300M 3.5L putting out 250hp?

I hear the 3500 is also more fuel efficient. The upper manifold is probably the biggest change being mostly plenum and almost no runners. That tends to help a lot with top-end hp.

it all has to do with the computer tuning and the intake. Look at the Z28 Camaro and the SS... biggest diff was the intake and some tuning. also as with more air intake the exhaust gets a less restrictive flow as well.

I thought the 3500 was the new 60deg V6 block that will also come bored out to diplace 3900. The 3400 is the same block as the 3100 and the 3100 used to be called a 3.1L which was a bored out 2.8L. I hope thats right?!

3500 also has more compression

And why does your mothers 300M's 3.5 Put out 250HP? BECAUSE IT A COMPLETLE DIFFERENT FOCKING ENGINE. Its all tuning valve setup ECT, why does the K20 put out 200HP using 2L when a 3500 puts out 200 using 3.5L? Thats whats the 3500 was Desined to put out. the 3.5 in the 300M is desined to put out 250HP the K20 is desined to put out 200HP.

i understand that they're different engines... i'm just saying why is GM holding their engines back?? keeping the new 3.5l around 200hp when chrysler/dodge is putting out engines with higher marks, ie hemi (ya i DO know it's a v8), 3.5l in the magnum, other rt and srt vehicles...

i guess it just doens't make sense to me that the people at chevy see what dodge or chrysler or whoever is doing and then they go and make a new 200hp 3.5L when it could do more.. who knows, i'm not the engineer

well its the type of car they are putting it into market demand ect, why did they not put and LS1 in the J bodys? because it a lowe model of car.

And why is GM holding back when dymler chrysler is relasing such cars as the SRT4... because its GM
