Well, the winter season is just around the corner. I just got a 2002 GAGT back in June. Anyways, I was thinking that I should probably get some snow tires. I've heard people say that the stock RSA's are crappy in snow.. Is this true? If so, what kind of snow tires do people here recommend? I live in Chicago, and we get hammered sometimes. Also, does the "ETS" really make a difference in snow? Please let me know. Any advice would be great!

Well, you can get by on the RS-A's in winter (they are all-season tires) but you can do much better. I recommend Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires. They have afew different models to choose from depending on what your priorities are. Check out The Tire Rack (http://www.tirerack.com) for winter tire and wheel packages to fit your car. You can get a complete wheel/tire package, mounted, balanced, and ready to bolt onto your car (save your stock alloy wheels from the harshness of road salt) for under $500.

This is a recent thread on the same topic, showing some opinions of what snow tire to use.

Whaddya know, that search button actually works!lol Give it a try next time. And ETS works great here in Kzoo, and I'm only about 2 hours from Chi-town. You just have to lighten up on the throttle:( . Enjoy and drive safe in that fluffy stuff.

I have been running RSA's in the winter since 1998. I have never had any problems or felt the need to buy snow tires.
I had RSA's on a Dodge Avenger prior to this car. The Front Wheel Drive on both cars was more than enough IMO.
You will probably look to the left and see I am in N. Virginia and say we don't get any snow here... well, not much, but I moved here a couple years ago from Pa, and I go back often. I put about 45,000 miles on the Avenger RSA's while living in Pa... some of those were trips to visit old friends in Warren Pa (about an hour east of Erie).
If you want the extra traction, then go for it, but I never felt I needed them with the benfits of front wheel drive.

I guess great minds think alike!:D I hate saying "use the search button," but about half of the threads lately could use it. Oh well, we were all :newbie:s once, eh?
Oh, and my experiences with RSA's were on a 2wd S10, so you can imagine the poor traction. I'm sure FWD cars would fare much better. You could always fill the tire with Fix-a-flat and stuff it with screws.....

Hey VAGT... I lived in Warren, PA for 6 years!!!!! I moved up there in 1995 to take a development engineer job for Rexnord. I moved back to Pittsburgh in 2001.
Warren, PA definitely gets the winter weather... I can vouch for that! :)

Cool. Small world. Big difference down here. People freak out over a couple inches. They give you the weird looks when you pass them in the snowy weather... as if you were crazy.
I moved to Warren in around 1982, and lived there until 1992 (9th grade). I can still remember getting 6-8 inches overnight and going to school the next morning without even a delay. Haha. I don't get up there as much as I should. I still have some very good firends there that I have tried to visit a couple times a year. The Best Man for my wedding lives in Warren. Town is dieing it seems though. Too far out from major roadways to have a chance at much growth.
I actually lived in North Warren on Kidder Street off of Jackson Run Road. Made it easy to get to the stream for some fishing :D
From there, I moved to Tyrone, then State College, then here.

Yeah, unfortunately, you are right.... I think the town IS dying. I was kinda forced to move, due to some restructuring going on at Rexnord. Lots of other companies up there closing the doors and cutting back too.
One thing I found strange about that small of a town (coming from Pittsburgh) is the fact that you see the same faces everywhere, and everyone knows everyone.
I lived on Conewango ave, just a few houses up from the intersection of Pennsylvania ave. and Conewango.
Small world, for sure! :)
