Whats that in miles
4000/1.6=2500

I could probably get away with 4000 miles

I have 12k kms on my last oil change now!!!! I normally go no longer than 10k kms, but food for thought, the oil is still barely discoloured, still has lot of viscosity even when hot and the damn car hasn't used a drop of oil since I changed it last!!! (always ful to the top of the cross hatch on the dip stick).

I usually go about 5,000 miles on a Mobil 1 oil change.

I'd say you could go up to 7000 miles on a good synthetic like mobil 1 without doing any analysis on the oil. I wouldn't push 7000 miles on it unless you get an oil analysis done on it at that point.

For a quality dino oil, I wouldn't push 5000 miles.

Of course your specific driving conditions will determine exactly how long you could push the oil. Also oil color is not a good indication of it's "goodness". Oil is supposed to get dark with use (one of its jobs is to remove dirt from the engine). Dark oil isn't necessarly bad, and light oil isn't necessarily good.

I use Mobil1 too and the oil is good for 10,000km at the least but the filter still needs to be changed after 5,000km like it would be with any other oil. What I do is pick somewhere in the middle and change both of them at the same time

Well, the previous owners of my car always used GTX castrol high milages. Wondering if its safe to switch to another high milage oil? Like the one you guys are talking about

Isnt castrol high mileage mean it is for cars with lots of miles on them?

A high milage oil is meant for an older engine (one with many miles on it). A synthetic like Mobil 1 is a higher quality oil which would outlast a cheaper oil, ie, Mobil 1 could easily be good for 7000miles while a dino oil like GTX would probably be good for no more than 5000miles. Now keep in mind that a synthetic oil will cost you a good amont more (about 2 - 3 times more). But synthetics have the advantage of handleing extreme temperatures (hot and cold) better as well as haveing better cleaning abilities than dinos.

Is high mileage oil really worth it?? I'm at almost 65K miles, was thinking of switching to it soon.

Personally, I don't even think Mobil 1 is worth the extra money. I change my oil every 3 months and it's always still pretty clean when it comes out. I don't see the point in spending 3 times the cost for oil. The gains do not out weigh the expense. Dino oil works quite fine if you change it frequently enough. I'd have to change my oil every 3-1/2 weeks to equal the cost of Mobil 1.

As far as temperature, I live in Southern Ontario. The temperature here ranges from -40 (yes, that's fahrenheit) in the winter to +115 in the summer. My car runs like a champ 100% of the time and I've never had starting problems. As far as "premature engine wear". That's marketing bunk to get you to pay more money for the oil. I ran my last car to 265,000 kms on dino oil and it didn't use a drop.

I heard you can go to 10,000 miles on mobil 1.

If your car doesn't have any leaks or is not consuming any oil, I would stick with what you have been doing... it works!

10,000 miles is probably the upper end of how far you could run a synthetic like mobil 1. And that would probably be for an engine that does mainly (>90%) highway driving. If you do a lot of city driving I wouldn't hesitate going 7000 to 8000 miles on Mobil 1.
