Can anybody explain the difference between the PASSlock II and the VATS system? I have a '00 GAGT. I have been trying to find info, but have been unsuccessful.

VATS: Resistor pelet in key "shaft", when key is inserted in ign, the resistor patches the loop required by the car to start, if there is no resistor the car will not start, if the vehicle sees the wrong value then it wont start. There are only about 12-15 different ressistances if memory serves me.
PL2: Resistor in the key cylinder, when the key is turned it alligns the resistor with the circuit thus allowing the car to start. This is effective because the whole cylider does not turn when broken, damaged, picked. This system includes many resistances (100+).
The point of these systems was to prevent "hotwiring" cars, and it works fairly well. GM switched over to PL2 as the VATS systems were prone to failer as, contacts would corrode and the mechanical part would fail (costly). With PL2 the resistance is in the cylinder meaning only one resistance to deal with, where as the vats systems had as many resistors as spare keys.
I am not sure 100% but the general idea is correct on this last part. The cutoff is where i am fuzzy!
Pass Key I resistor key, and ign cutoff, VATS
Pass Key II resistor key, and fuel cutoff, VATS
Pass Lock resistor in cylinder, ign. cutoff
Pass Lock II resistor in cylinder, fuel cutoff
Pass Key III transiever based, fuel cutoff

Thanks mi2kga!!! In the duration of the last day or so, I did find a couple of websites that do verify your information. Do you have any experience in actually wiring up a remote start to a GM car? I only ask because if I screw up and [thank god the wires are color coded! :-) ] need to go back to scratch, will barrel connectors create to much resistance to through the 5% tolerance off?

Which system/vehicle are you doing? I have installed many more then i can count, i am doing a dei start and pl2 bypass right now on a jimmy, so YES!
